Need a little more info - but I'll give you the basics. There are probably several police departments in the area you are looking at - The Collier County Sheriff's office, Naples, Punta Gorda, Arcadia and several other cities in the area have their own police departments. Each will have their own criteria for applying, you'll probably have to contact them individually.
The academy is also different for different counties. But in general figure 4 months +/-.
Starting pay will probably be in the mid 30's +/- depending on the department. That whole area of the coast is really growing, and I would not be surprised to hear that all of the departments I named above are hiring.
Southwest florida is growing sooo fast. There are numerous agencies in the area and im sure they are all hiring. It just depends on what your looking for. YOu have to weigh the pros and cons of a smaller (city agency) to a larger (county agency).
I can personally recommend Collier County Sheriffs Office. Most County agencies though usually like a little police experience before they are willing to take a shot at you but it dosn't hurt to try.
Southwest Florida goes through the Fort Myers Police Academy which will run about 23 weeks.
CCSO starts at around $36,000 or so. You get a 1500 sign on bonus for equipment, a take home car, great benefits and alot of room to advance and move around in the agency.
Good luck.
