I'm going to throw out the limited information I've heard so it may or may not be helpful. From what I have been told once your certified and pass the academy you're good for the entire state. Assuming that the entire state must do similar training in the academies. This is what an academy instructor said so if thats wrong I either misheard her or misquoted her. The physical tests I'm sure vary though depending on the department/county/agency etc that you're applying for. I've heard from many people in Brevard county that it isn't as much as a requirement that you "have" to achieve as much as they want to see how hard and how far you're willing to go. I'm probably off here but thats my thoughts.

Thanks Jason.
I always thought you have to be accepted by the department first then you go thru the academy. But to getting accepted by the department you have to pass the physical test, the written test and the interiew... haha... i must thinking backward?? Am i?

Depends upon what part of the state you want. Different areas have different tests. Most use the CJBAt and state standard physical agility test

I took my Cjbat (Criminal justice basic abilities test) today. And everyone at the office and county office I'm going to apply with says they are so undermaned that they're hiring constantly. Basically here if you score well on the Cjbat and your background and everything pans out you get hired and sponsored. This is for correction's and what only I have heard as far as the local Brevard county Sheriff's department works. I don't know if the local police departments sponsor. Although I do know you can privately put yourself through the academies. Though it is a lot easier on the budget to have someone front the bill if possible.
Florida is like this. If you want to be Florida state certified you can attend any of the county police academies (there are about 50 or so in the 67 counties). This will enable you to apply anwhere in the state and get hired.
You can attempt to get "sponsored" by an agency. Local and County's both do this. They will "foot the bill", pending you pass. However you most likely will be locked in to that agency for a certain amount of time. If you dont like it there, oh well, your pretty much stuck. Do good research if your gonna go that route on the agency first. My advice would be pay yourself.
As for the physical test. Every academy does different PT, and each agency has a different PT test prior to hiring so cant answer that one for ya.
good luck

Deluxe,
All the info you should need is available online. A good starting point is the City of Fort Lauderdale's webiste. www.flpd.org Look around on there for testing info. They will tell you everything you need to know about the physical. I believe Coconut Creek is in Broward right? You will need to set up a time at Broward Community College to take the various tests there. The physical consists of an obstacle course for which you have two minutes. You also have to jump your height horizontally, do a trigger pull for a certain number of repetitions, and push a car in addition to a 1/2 mile run in 5:00 minutes.

Are you wanting to know what the PAT (Physical Agilities test) is going to be like? Or are you wanting to know what the Physical part in the Academy is going to be like? I am not understanding your question. If you can clarify what it is your asking I can tell you exactly as I have done both!

I don't know what the process is like in other parts of the state, but in South Florida, the physical agility test is fairly simple. There's a trigger pull, standing long jump, obstacle course, swim test and half-mile run. You need to take all of these prior to sending in your application with any agency along with your CJBAT scores. In Broward county, you can take care of these requirements at the academy at the Institute of Public Safety. I believe they run the process weekly for prospective applicants.
Hope that helps!
