Anyone here using the toolkit software that OCJS has out for reporting?

Recently went to a training, and a group of us have been entering reports into it for right now, at the end of the month everyone will be trained and using it.

It took a little bit to get used to, but seems to be a good program once I've gotten used to it. Anyone else have any thoughts or tips on this? Anything you guys would suggest to be brought up at the training with the developer of the program?

I'm looking forward to making the switch, but not looking forward to helping a couple of the computer illiterate guys figure it out.

We are going to switch all of our reports to it come Jan. 1st, 2006. My department sent me to a training event in Cadiz, Ohio. Then they made me the software administrator  and made me show our department how to use it.

It takes some time getting used to it, but it gets easier with every report you do. The easiest way to learn it is to just start entering reports while following along with the pdf manuals. The training videos were kind of difficlut to follow.

With it on our car laptop we can just take the laptop to the scene and print the report out back at the station. I think it will even be easier with the driver's license scanner.

It takes the guess work out of what is required and what can be left blank on the reports.

It makes crash reports easier with the exception of the diagramming. The crash diagram software they have is still a pain. I found it easier to just draw the diagram and scan it into the computer and attach it as the first image. The software puts it right into the diagram box.

Some of our officers kind of got upset because it means changing the way they do their reports. I'm not sure if thats a software problem or an issue with the officers filling out the reports wrong for too many years  I'm still a newb LEO to be sure to make a firm judgement.

Well, an update since the first post. We've used it since the date of the post and it's been okay. However we are ditching it in favor of another program that would be completely tied into the new CAD system we're getting.

Ive never been to this site before. We are still using paper and it looks like we will for some time. I am ready to make the switch to computer for all reports. In the meantime we still scratch it all out by hand.

Check with the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services. The software and the computers were paid for by a grant. Not sure if it's still going, but would be worth it to check.

good morning to all,

My name is Danny, and I work for the Office of Criminal Justice Services. To answer some of the questions on this post about the Law Enforcement Officers Toolkit (LEOT).

- The LEOT is a bundle of software developed and maintained by our office. Software includes a records management system (to do reports), an electronic OH-1 modual, FIR modual, citation modual, and a evidence bar coding modual. The LEOT is OIBRS and OLLEISN certified, and allows departments to submit their data electronically. (No more lengthy UCR submissions). There is a yearly fee of $350 for the entire system- which includes installation, any updates, training, tech support, everything. You can install it on one computer in the PD or many computers in the cars. The price does not change.

- Over 300 police agencies within the state currently us this software, and we project this number to grow.

- The Ohio Chiefs of Police are currently pushing the OLLEISN project (Ohio Local Law Enforcement Information Sharing Network). The aim of the project is to get more departments to share data and also permit departments to submit crime data electronically. For deparments that wish to participate, they are installing free computers (Dell, with monitors, printers), providing free internet connects for three years, and paying for the cost of the LEOT for three years. It is a great opportunity to update your department with the newest technolgy for free. I have been a police officer within the state for the past 15 years, and I can't recall any other great program like this.

Anyone wishing more information about these programs can contact me directly. This is what I do for our agency. I can be reached in Columbus at 614-466-2013. I can schdule a visit to any meeting or to your department to demo the LEOT, and provide any other informaion on the chief's programs and other programs within the state.

Be safe,
DA
