For all of those who are country fans, or rodeo fans....
I just found out that
Chris LeDoux passed away this morning.
He had had the liver transplant 5 years ago..
He also had cancer he found out in November.
I saw him in October, and he had actually cut the show short and they had taken him to the hospital that night...
I have been a Chris LeDoux fan since I don't know when
Seen him about 12 times in concert.
He was the World Champ bronc rider in 76.
A real cowboy and a real nice guy!
I'm deeply hurt by this loss. I didn't know him personally, but the times I did meet him, he was one of the nicest people I've ever met in music...
He was 56 years old

"had to edit. had a couple of facts wrong.."

Oh man, a true legend. :(

He can go join Cash, Hank, Waylon and others in that big honky tonk in the sky.

"Like a rhinestone cowboy..."

He was my all time favorite............
The man had over 35 cd's out.
He was the world champion bareback rider........
he really was a true legend.
Not like some of the wannabe's that put on a hat and boots and play dress up and 'think' they're a cowboy.

Got to see him in concert in Montana about 7 years ago and have always loved his music. Especially this song. While I was stationed in Turkey, they had a Country bar on the base called, "The WagonWheel" One of the best and friendliest bars I have ever been to. Spent many a night there during two separate deployments. The people that frequented the place changed quite often, but the one constant with that place was they always played this song as the last song of the night....

Thanks for the memories Chris... God Bless

"This Cowboys Hat" by Chris Ledoux

I was sittin in a coffee shop havin a cup to past the
time, swappin' rodeo stories with this ole cowboy
friend of mine. Some motorcycle riders started
snickering in the back, started poking fun at my
friends' hat.

One ole bay said "Hey Tex, where'd you park your
horse?", my friend just pulled his hat down low but,
they couldn't be ignored. One husky fella said "I
think I'll rip that hat right off you head." That's
when my friend turned around, and this is what he
said.

(CHORUS)
"You'll ride a black tornado 'cross the western sky,
rope an ole blue northern and milk it til it's dry,
bulldog the mississippi, pin its ears down flat,
longbefore you take this cowboy's hat."

2nd Verse

"Now partner this ole hat's better left alone, you see
it used to be my daddy's, but last year he passed on.
My nephew skinned the rattler that makes up this ole
hat band, but back in 69 he died in Vietnam. Now the
eagle feather was given to me by an indian friend of
mine, but someone ran him down somewhere around that
Arizona line. And a real special lady gave this hat
pin, but I don't know if I'll ever see her again."

(CHORUS)

3rd Verse

"Now if your leather jacket means to you what this hat
means to me, I guess we understand each other and
we'll just let it be.But if you still think it's
funny, man you got my back up against the wall and if
you touch my hat you're gonna have to fight us all."
Right then I caught a little sadness in that gang
leaders eyes, he turned back to the others and they
just kinda shuffled on outside. And when my friend
turned back towards me, I noticed his ole hat brim, it
was turned up in a big ole Texas grin.

(CHORUS)

:( That's definately sad news. He will surely be miss. I did always loved his "Cadillac Ranch" song.

I'm a strong country music guy with some alternative music. At least Chris's music will always live on.

So uncultured!!!

Go to that CMT link, his bio should be on there. He was one of the greats that guys like George Strait and Garth Brooks looked up to.

Well, a lot of people hadn't heard of him til Garth Brooks mentioned him in a song "Too young to feel this Damn Old"
the verse said "worn out tapes of Chris LeDoux, lonely women and bad boose"

But actually Chris has been around since before I was born singing., He used to rodeo, and sing and sell his cd's at the rodeos. I have over 32 cd's of his...
He was actually a true cowboy and I'm going to miss seeing him in concert every year. He had more energy than some of the rock bands I've seen!.

Man, now I'm really bummin', like others have said, Chris LeDoux was the real deal. I'll have to break out his CD's and listen while I'm on patrol today. I was always partial to "This Cowboy's Hat" and "Workin' Man's Dollar". Truly, the passing of a legend.

A true cowboy, a great singer, and a gentleman.

Got his due recognition in the song by Garth Brooks (?) can't remember the name.

TK has the name of the song and verse above me. (OK I'm a little slow :p )

Tougher than the Rest.
look at you girl
damn. I have all 36 of his cd's and I can't say that I DON'T like ANY song.

If the website is still open.. he also made sculptures of bronc and bull riders.
Ned, his son and one of his drummers, painted skulls.
Chris was world champion saddle bronc rider when i was only 3.. But He really was kind of one of my 'heros'.. Nice nice man. I've had the pleasure of meeting him about 6 times. Met Peggy, his wive, and Ned, also.
Nice damn people.
Country music.. and RODEO will never be the same without a man like that.
