View Full Version : Trying to get motivated....

Ok I am not sure if its from the weather or what....But lately even more so, I can't get motivated to do to much when I am off work...I constently have been prolonging doing things and I want to get into a workout routine, but I am prolonging that as well...

I am not depressed or anything its just that well I prefer to be a bum or hang out with my friends....Any advice to get my lazy butt in gear...I hope when spring comes around it may change...But even house work I am prolonging...

Any suggestions????

I'll be closely monitoring this thread, since I currently suffer from the same affliction. All this snow and short hours of daylight are starting to get to me.

At least I'm up to 45 minutes into my shift before I have to turn on my headlights, versus right out of roll call a few months ago. :p

It's funny because at work, I get the job done and do what I need to do and put forth effort, but when I get home, I get sidetracked....maybe I should blame it on this computer ;)

I am also getting ready to move Tuesday and am I really prepared? NO...prolonging that also :(

Maybe it is the cold and darkness....Who knows....But I can do everything else that doesn't need done

I'm the same way as to what both of you describe. I personally think it might be stress on a more subconscious level. I do have alot of stress in my life right now. Last year was a emotional hell for me. It also could be the weather because really this time of year there not alot to do outside. I have notice though drinking alots of water seems to help a little bit. But I just try to stay active in things.

Photo,

I understand really where your coming from. I get really bad migraines too from too much caffine. I can't get a hour without it but I'm having to slowly cut back on it. And trust me I would have it on a IV shooting caffine stright in to my blood if I could LOL. I try to only drink pop at lunch and dinner with the meal. Outside of that just tea, juice, sport drinks, and water. Relationship drama is no fun at all. Me and my XGF went through a awful break up last year. It wasn't because either one of us was trying to make it worst. It was just how things happen. Something else I forgot to mention is I have a really hard time falling asleep. I don't think I have any sleeping disorder because the reason I can't fall asleep is my mind keeps thinking about things and takes me awhile to get it to turn it self off. I think is part of why I have a hard time getting motivated.

Have you ever associated the two? They are saying that migraines may come from TMJ (teeth grinding) during sleep, so you may want to consult a dentist.
Concentrating on breathing deeply puts me out like a light.

ugh, I feel that motivational slump, especially going to the gym. I am so damn tired after work, its a real pain to get going to do it. But I did find out that once I'm there, I'm good to go when I start exercising. I'd suggest altering your daily routine a little, and see if that helps. IE if you come home from work and plop into the chair and turn on the TV, instead of doing that, do the chores right off the bad and get them out of the way. Or read the newspaper. Just do something different to get you out of the slump. Mebbe that will work. Oh, and glad I am single, one less headache for the time being :)

Jeez guys and gals I am right there with all of you I in such a funk...I am in school finishing up my LE degree and working full time, I have class M-F 1700-2200 and work from 2300-0700, I just feel right now that I can't get away from law enforcement its everything I do right now. I see my class mates more then I see my son! *Groan* and i want to switch departments this summer and having to go through a hiring process again! Sheesh. I know lets all go to Vegas and have a O.com seasonal affective disorder party!

I'M NOT ALONE :D . I swear it is the time of year! I will be on the first plane to Vegas - just don't plan the trip until June when I am done going to the academy!! Too much to do, not enough time to do it, so I don't! It sucks! Luckily the relationship thing is GOOD! Otherwise I would be more miserable than I am! My daughter tells me every morning - see you tomorrow - do you know how bad that suck! 30 minutes in the morning I get to see her, and then it is - Get Dressed, Eat your breakfast, HURRY UP!!! That sucks for her too!

Well, I can't blame it on the relationship thing, cuz I haven't even been on a date in a couple of years...
But too much work, not enough daylight for fun things
Don't remember the last time I slept ALL night long without waking up two or three times.
Maybe the weather, who knows.
As far as working out............mirrors......dadgum mirrors don't lie. They say, "you're a fatass!" every time I see one. So that helped get me motivated to work out a little more.

Must be some epidemic.... :D

The weather has been very nice actually, but finals are around the corner and I feel like all I do is study, go to class, eat, sleep and spend a few minutes tooling around on the computer.

I've been trying to motivate myself to go out and run or bike or do something physical but to no avail.

Actually my dentist wouldn't do the work because dental insurance would not cover it and it was going to be buttloads of $$$$, but my medical doctor treats it and I have been as "cured" as you can be with the problem for a few years now. Makes a huge difference in your sleep. I have to wear a custom mouthpiece every night, but you might want to try one of the sports ones at first to see if it helps.

Ummm... Is one the you wear confortable? I have a sports mouth peice and I hate using it just for a few mins because its so unconfortable. I'm just wondering how confortable your custom made one is?

Mine is extremely comfortable - I have been wearing the same one for at least four years. It is acrylic and was molded out of a mold of my bite so it fits perfect. If I have any dental work done I just take it in and they adjust it versus making a new one - if I didn't have medical insurance the piece would have cost over $1,000  I admit the sports ones are way too cumbersome to be comfortable.

I'll have to look in to that if it is TMJ. I really believe head aches from stress.

According to you Quopper (refer to Things you don't want to here in Jokes) sex help cures headaches. I have been single for about 2 years now. :(

You may already have it, but I had to ask... are you using a gel type piece that you put into hot water, then bite into it? I know we always used them for football, but I haven't looked for them in a few years, since I went on a CPAP.

I tried to home remedy a snoring problem...

Yes is one of those football mouth peices you place in hotwater and bite on it.

I think its the weather. I blame the bad weather on the groundhog.

LOL....

But I agree with Neto, drinking water, sports drinks, and tea is alot better then coffee or sodas.

I have been cutting back on sodas and coffee *since I used to drink alot of those) and I would get really bad headaches (along with having headaches) during allergy season.

But now, I haven't had any "really" bad headaches, since I am working out alot at the gym and keeping myself busy.

Although, I am "majorly" addicted to this forum...

I guess Iam not alone in this SAD crap. I got huge amonts of stufff going on,
1-new job, HUGE pay cut {over 20Gs}
2-Moving in a few weeks
3-kid got pneumonia
4-wife working less and going to school again
5-no money left over for the gym
At least I got my SONY bigscreen tv to watch, when I have time :(
oh yeah did I mention a HUGE pay cut. It'll take about 3 yrs to be back where I was in my old department but in 4 years I will be about 5-10Gs higher...

This happens to most people every year about this time. My advice is the FIRST nice day, drop whatever it is you are doing and get outside, even if it's by yourself shooting baskets or something. This seems to work.

I'm going to school fulltime and working about 35-40 hours per week...and I find it hard to drag myself out of the house and do my runs. It's not like it's hard to do the distance I do...but the cold weather up here in MN is a huge deterrant. Like a Tuesday night, I'll get my jogging stuff on and open the front door to find it -10 degrees. Well I'm not feeling the whole "run in a jacket" thing so I blow it off. I can definatly see it's the weather discouraging me...

I hear you. I live about 300 miles north of the arctic circle, so when the sun goes down for 2 months it can get a little depressing. My advice: hit the gym. Nothing picks me up like a little endorphin kick in the morning.

They also have full-spectrum light boxes you can buy that have the same spectrum as the sun. If you spend an hour in a room with one it has been shown to improve your mood.
