We in Baltimore have a lack of good radio. No REAL country station, far too much hip hop and R&B , an ok album rock station and a decent little free form station out of Annapolis that comes in when the stars align properly and your radio is facing the right way.

On top of all that crap, we now have to deal with a "smooth jazz" station. My curse is that I work with people who like this stuff. Anyways, I'm at work last night working with a guy who likes this, and this really upbeat instrumental comes on. I realize that I know the melody, despite it's not really resembling the original. It's "Come As You Are" played as a upbeat smooth jazz tune! The melody was played on a sax.

MY GOD I wanted to vomit! Where's the anger? The rage? The crunching guitar and drums assaulting my ear drums? This is an angry song and now it's "peppy"? WTF??? Who allowed this to happen?? Did Courtney Love need heroin money?

I could go on and on about bad remakes of great songs.

Thats why I invest in CDs...I get to listen to what I want, when I want. I do have to admit that when I do listen to the radio I do end up doing a lot of station surfing. We have a lot of different stations where I live and it always amazes me that either none of the stations are playing anything good or they all have commercials at the same time. I think its a conspiracy. ;) Plus, they switched one of the better rock stations to yet another R&B station. Is good old rock fading out?

I stick to news stations and listen to the CD player when I want music. Although if I could afford it that satellite radio thingamajig looks pretty good.

My XM is the greatest purchase I have made in years. If you had told me last year that in a year I would be paying to listen to radio, I would have said you were crazy.

I got one to take a trip out to Arizona, since I could buy a radio for $100 and pay for it monthly...figured I'd just use it for a month. Now I have 3, 1 in each car and one hooked up on my computer to which I am listening right now (XM-PCR is no longer sold).

They are easy to hook up in your car, either tape deck adapter or rf, run a tiny little wire with a little 1" square magnetic antenna onto your roof/hood/trunk and plug into cig lighter and you are set. Reception is only affected by some gas station awnings and tunnels.

On the talk stations you get their syndicated commercials, but on the music the only commercials are self-promos. Many of the larger cities have separate traffic channels which also gives the wether reports for that area.

My newest one has a stock ticker on it if I wanted to use it.

Check it out at www.xmradio.com. This is not a paid endorsement :)

My little Creative Muvo rides in the car with me. I just plug it into the tape adapter and voila, music I want to hear. :)

I'm kind of lucky we have some pretty good stations that play alot of old country.
I'm a dial turner, besides I have about 300 cd's or so, so whenever I'm in the mood for something inparticular, I usually have it.

Considering all of the gangster rap I have to listen to so much these days, smooth jazz sounds pretty darn good.

Irish, WPOC is a Clear Channel station. Won't listen on principal. :P Seriously though, if they were less pop country, I'd listen more. When I want country I'm more inclined to listen to WMZQ out of DC. WRNR is cool, when you can get them. WIYY is OK but not great. The rest....I'll pass. Mornings are WBAL from about 6AM to noon.

I got Sirius for Christmas which I absoluetly love. No more dealing with local stations much except at work. Still in shock over that remake though.
