This morning's news reported that the American Kennel Club Dog Show drew more veiwers then the Stanly Cup Playoffs. So much for hockey being a successful venue if they settle a strike and have a season next year.

Both sides are screwing up the NHL. Professional sports is are becoming less fun to be a fan of.

What did you expect - the dogs show up for treats only, and they don't have union reps!

Hockey is a tie for my favorite sport with baseball, but they have definitely ****ed ME off this year!

Damn babies....

Hang in there guys, spring training starts soon :p

This is part of the reason that I have no desire to watch professional sports. The values of America have left the side of honorable professions such as teachers and doctors. We now reward those who are talented in sports.
I have no remorse about the NHL, even though the owners may have not made it easy on the players, the players haven

Things that lead me to believe the NHL is doomed:

1. A 'National' league that covers more than one country. Hello! Somebody look up 'national' in the dictionary, please.

2. Professional teams in Phoenix, Tampa and Atlanta while Wisconsin (where we play the damn sport in high school) still goes without.

3. 30 teams in what everyone knows is the also-ran of major professional sports. You can only slice the pie so thin.

Greed has ruin professional sports. Now I really haven't kept up with all the details with the NHL. But I love football. Anymore college sports is all I watch because at least the players give it there all even if they are no chance of winning. All professional sports is a bunch of millionaire running around like a bunch of idiots.

Not to mention San Jose. Now that you mention it, that is pretty whacky.

Well when they get the full ride because of sports that just boosts the greed.

I would be bored to tears watching a dog show. Five minutes into it and I've lost all interest. If I want to watch a dog I'll watch my four legged friend loaf around in the living room...she's a hell of a lot prettier than a lot of dogs at a show.

As far as hockey, I'm a fan but much prefer college hockey than professional. Actually I'm like that with most sports. College games just have a different feel to 'em. Maybe thats because they aren't making millions of dollars.

The NHL was almost dead until Gretzty was traded from the Oilers to the Kings...the only reason ther is pro hockey in PHX is Gretzky took it there...

the NHL (Bettman) screwed up by not leveraging the AHL against the Players Association...if they knew that the AHL might be playing on their ice, things would have gone much diiferently....let's face it, the NHL DOES need a cap. When you have third and fourth liners driving benzes there is a problem...

If andwhen the NHL resumes play and they are serious about improving the game they should:

1. Loosen the penalties for fighting

2. Get rid of the red line

Non hockey fans won't understand this but this will speed up what was once a fast paced sport and will be highly enteraining. It's boring now- watching the clutching and trap defenses they've had over the past couple of years has helped kill it's popularity.

Has anyone else seen the VHS tapes/CDs of nothing but hockey fights? You don't have to be a hockey fan to enjoy them. It's almost like Ulitimate Fighting on skates. I once read about a Tavern in the UK whose business went up 200% after they held nightly "hockey fight night" viewings on their Telly.

another idea to speed up the game is to eliminate the center (although i would be out of a job then), i don't believe they will loosen fighting rules after the whole bertuzzi fiasco..fighting is tactical tool to try to change the momentum of the game..not a center ring attraction..they should tighten the holding/obstruction rules to eliminate all the grab-*** going on in the corners and keep the puck moving..just a few thoughts...

Brick, by red line do you mean the center line? If so, why not just eliminate the rule against two line passes? That would roughly be the same effect, wouldn't it?
