My heritage, experience and history tells me that Boston is a good old Irish Town, especially when it comes to 'The Force'.

Some time ago I read with interest the appointment of Kathleen O'Toole as Police Commissioner of the Boston City Police Department and I thought to myself, "Good on you Kathleen, you have done well for yourself".

However, I read the following and things do not look good in Dear Old Boston.

The Moynihan Institute (http://www.moynihaninstitute.org/metermaid.htm)

Kathleen O'Toole (http://www.moynihaninstitute.org/otool2.htm)

Whilst I would not expect any public criticism by a Boston Police Officer of their Police Commissioner, my question is, "Does any of the comments contained in the above articles have any merit?".

Irish American Police Officers Association (http://www.irishamericanpolice.org) - Please pass on my regards.

Cheers

Ms O'Toole is a well connected political hack if you ask me.

Ms O'Toole is a well connected political hack if you ask me.

(Ed McMahon voice) "That would be correct, sir". :D

Delta- on my desk where this computer is located is an empty bottle of Old E (albeit only 32 ounces, as 40 oz are illegal in FL). I drank it when I was initiated into my fraternity and the bottle holds somewhat of a sentimental value to me. Everytime I read your post and see your picture, I look at that bottle, and remember just how drunk a 19 year old college kid could get. Thanks.

O'Toole is very smart, and very savvy. That all said, she is always out front with such cutting statements like the ever popular "We not only can do better, but we must do better", or the other groundbreaker "I take full responsibilty..." The 2nd one is particularly cutting edge because it is usually used just prior to someone else actually being held responsibe, usually in private, and usually at the expense of their career.

She was given the job after a very competant Jim Hussey was passed over. Hussey was the acting Commisioner when the son of a high ranking State Trooper was killed during a Superbowl victory riot, something that has become sort of a tradition around here. You see, it was Hussey's fault that every drunken (Northeastern Univ., BU, BC, Emerson, Harvard, MIT, etc.) students decided to burn cars, riot, drive drunk, and destroy their own campuses, as well as the Fenway Park/Kenmore Sqaure area.

She did not hold herself to the same standard though when a year later a young girl was killed under similar circumstances during a Red Sox Victory Riot. Nope, she jettisioned several of the people under her.

Just my .02.
