Yeah, that earned me my second "final warning" from the mods.
Let me just say that I'd move in a heartbeat, if my wife wasn't so attached to her family, and if I didn't make so much money where I am now.

I'll add one ...cost of living. I would have to make 130K living in MA to live like I do in Ohio making 80K

Thats the reason Im leaving this $hit hole... Goin down south where I'll make a measly 40g, but buy a 4 bedroom house with 1/2 acre for 130g...
Plus the 50* winters are always a plus... :D

It depends when you bought your house. I bought a great home in a buyers market at a great int rate (4.875). The cost of living is all relative I guess.
6233108-
80K is pretty good. You wouldn't exactly be living in a "van down by the river" making 80K a year in MA. :D

I'm making 80K with no details, hardly any OT and I'm doing pretty well. On yeah, my wife makes 60K+. :( :)

To be exact 82K last year as a Sgt. and about 12K in OT. No side jobs as I loath them, bastards cut ya loose quicker than your department/city. Make your head spin.

I don't like details either. But, we're up to $40 an hr with a four hr minimum so I may work some this year. If I took all the OT and Details I'd be making well over 100K. I'm not one of those guys that like to work myself to death since I have kids that need time too, etc. Since I pace myself I',m not overextending but it's nice to know I can work more if need be.

Making 80K in MA, you sure as hell wouldn't be living in Brockton, but neither would you be living in Lincoln. That salary would get you into a nice middle-class area.

We're at $35 per hour for "inside" jobs (banks, supermarkets, etc.), and $37 for road (construction) jobs, or anything involving alcohol (barrooms, nightclubs, weddings, etc.). A four-hour minimum for everything.
We still have a $3 per hour window to increase details before the contract expires in two years, so we could be at $38 and $40 shortly.

but then we usually do. Last week one day hit near 80 degrees. Nature is confused here all the time. Grass has already turned green in places, the trees are budding, birds are singing. Young men's thoughts have turned to love. Oh wait, that's all year round. :D

 SPEEDOS  I think we can arrest for that here lol. If women cannot wear thongs on the beaches in this area speedos definetly have to be against the law, especially when you see an 80 year old man in them

We're being hijacked by foreigners!
Ladylawman, it's cold but I'd still rather live in New England. I was staioned in Panama City years ago at Tyndall AFB. Hardly anyone that lives in FL is from there and talk about a total lack of culture. Sorry, I'm just used to it up here, lots of history. Everywhere is a reminder of history and how the US was built, it's cool. Plus, we're all rich up here!

In my department, for "details" or off duty work, we get $40 an hour with a minimum of 4 hours. We get an automatic 8 hours when we go over 4 hours. Not bad. Any jobs for town construction are at time and a half.
If it were worth it to me, I would hit the road and go to Florida. But I have 8 years into our ****ty retirement system and need 12 more to hit the minimums. Being a vet in MA, I get to buy back 4 years which will give me the equivilent of 24 years at age 53.
If I bailed now, I would recover my contributions to the pension, but that is it. No one in Florida would tell me how I could buy back my military time, though I am told I can, or if I can tansfer my Massachusetts pension somehow (in whole or part). So I just put it off and will wait until I can retire from here.
I own a small beach house on the coast here in MA and hope to have some life left to enjoy it.

Back in the day, you had to make $80k+ to live inside of Route 128...now it's all the way out past I-495. I bought a nice place in the low $300s in central MA.
If I didn't get hired by this department I'm in now (I won the lottery on this one) we were considering moving to NC. It has everything like mountains, beaches, lots of land, low cost of living, friendly people. But ZERO culture. We don't care for college basketball, and they don't deserve a hockey team.
The SDs down there pay you crap, but you can go to a Community College and get your BLET just like in FL. We considered FL but it's so damn flat, dirty and ugly. Nice beaches though.
