My friend just told me that the police department in the town that I live in. Just cut its COPPS program due to budget cuts.

I was really looking forward to doing this too.

I guess I will find another city close to mine to do it at.

Ya they cut the one at my college. Your COPS programs is probably like ours it was paid for by the feds. Its from Bushs new round of budget cuts.

I really don't know I just assume so. I try keep some distance from politics because I live in it everyday.

Yea, I think alot of depts. are starting to cut the "fat" in anticipation of the cut. Eventhough there certainly are mixed opinions on the programs, I know it is sad to see some of them go. The ones that were run right, defenitally were a positive for the dept. and community.

I was really looking forward to the program that I signed up for.

I am also on a community program for the fire department in my town too. Well,its a disaster preparation program.


But I thought since that I want to become a Police Officer. I would sign up for the COPPS program. My friend said that they might bring it up again,hopefully by then I will become a cop.

I'm a member of our COPS program. It is not federally funded and was just reapproved for five more years. I'm also starting Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) this Saturday. It will last for 12 weeks.

I have been with my CERT team for 2 years now. Along with my mom and I. We are the CERT leaders for our area.

I like being able to help out.

Is your CERT program done with the Fire Department or Police or with both.

Mine is just done with the Fire department but it would be nice if they worked together to do something.

I think it's going to be both. We'll be having classes at the Police Academy, though.
