This is the best show on TV for a long time. Its hilarious to watch these characters interact. You have to watch this show on Spike TV.
Everyone wants to see Chris Leben the loud mouthed, cocky, crazy dude get stomped. I am hoping Forrest the cop wins the light-heavyweight division.
If nothing else you can learn what moves may be used on you on the street from this show.
What do you think of the show?

I hate "reality" TV with a passion... I honestly refuse to watch any of it...

I like the show. I've actually become addicted to it. The last show was a little bit crazy with Chris smashing his fist through the glass door then kicking another door in half. I can't wait to see him fight Josh next week.

This is the only reality show I watch except for the occasional cops episode.
I think Leben will take Josh Koschek. I am a big believer in controlled agression in fights.
I can't believe Southfork lost 20 lbs in a day and still won his fight in his weakened condition.

My only complaint about the show is the goofy competitions that they have to do. (That was also my biggest gripe about FOX's Next Great Champ show)
I'd much rather see them doing much more fight specific training, and let the coaches decide who's the weakest link in their camp, and then throw them into the cage to fight for their survival.
I realize that watching fighters train wouldn't be as interesting to the general public as it would be to me though. If it gets more people up off their butts and into the dojo I am all for it.

I like it but the basic cable fights are too watered down as compared to a few 'Ken Shamrock' years ago, it's not as violently intense. Too many rules nowadays.

It's not the rules that have decreased the beatdowns. When the UFC first came around you had a lot a "McDojo" types entering the competition. They assumed that because they'd (ahem) earned a black belt in American Ninjitsu or some other bogus system, that they could actually fight.
Matching these clowns up against real professional fighters, produced some horrific mismatches and severe beatings lol. Now, most people realize that their black belt in Tai Chi does not prepare them for real fights, so anyone who plans to enter a MMA fight cross trains.
All of the fighters nowdays are pretty good at all aspects of MMA... grappling, striking, and submissions. They cross train in all of these aspects and match up with each other better than the earlier contestants did. If I remember right, one of the contestants in UFC 1 was a world Tae Kwon Do Forms Champion.
For those of you who dont know... "forms" competitions in martial arts are akin to rythmic gymnastics lol. It looks pretty and takes some athletic ability and skill, but is in no way geared towards realistic fighting.

I have watched this show acouple of times and out of all the "reality shows" it is not that bad.
Survivor on the other hand..... I'll be totaly into that if its ever held in Siberia during the winter. That would be entertaining.

I hate reality TV like poison.
I wish they'd just pit the Christians against the lions, and get it over with.

I do agree with your assessment of martial artists as fighters. In the seventies, a "world champion" Kung Fu black belt fought a highly ranked lightweight boxer (Mondo Ramos or Danny "Indian Red" Lopez I believe) in Hawaii. It was a pretty even fight for a couple rounds, then the boxer had his opponent figured out and knocked him out. There is a reason why martial arts are called arts.
Reference the UFC, that is another abysmal joke. I saw Tito Ortiz get his *** kicked by a complete dufus who'd have gotten his *** kicked by a mere journeyman boxer. In fact, on that same "card" another upset occurred when an underrated fighter boxed his way to victory over a highly rated but inferior UFC "fighter." Don't get me wrong, UFC is amusing to watch, but the participants are not very good; if they were, they'd get a manager and box: afterall, that's where the money is! But, I do know that Tyson would kick the living **** out of anyone now fighting in that venue!
UFC is an excellent venue for Mike Tyson. He is nothing more than a carefully managed journeyman boxer who never whipped anybody who was any good save Alex Stewart. Remember that in 1988 when Tyson was at his peak, he had signed to fight Holyfield. Thankfully for Tyson, he went to prison otherwise he'd have been exposed as a fake long before 1996. Y'see, even Ali said in 1988 that Tyson could never whip Holyfield!
Take care,
JW

UFC is much more than boxing. If you saw 2 shows ago, a boxer was immediately taken down by a submission fighter and at that point the fight was over. It takes much more skill and ability to fight in UFC than Boxing, there are so many different styles and techniques. Right now it's one of the fastest moving sports while at the same time Boxing is losing it's steam.

The UFC show is great. I can't believe they are up until 4 am and later and have to fight the next day. The amount of money the production staff spends on alcohol must be off the charts. The fight next weeks should be great.

I've only had the chance to see one episode. I thought it was pretty good though. One of our Black Belts now does the MMA competitions and trains under Renzo gracie. He's having Kenny Florian from the show come and give a seminar to his guys. I think they trained together at one time. Not sure, haven't really gotten into the whole MMA thing. I do love the K-1 though.

I think Leben will take Koschek too. On a side note, I thought it was Southworth? I could be wrong though

I just saw the show for the first time yesterday.
The four or five guys they focused on in the episode were obvious lunatics. They all have the cocky, 'I'll kick your ***' mentality that makes you think of the 3rd grade bully that got whipped up on by some kid he underestimated. I'll enjoy watching it just to see some of these guys get beat down.
I can't wait to see the fight between the red headed stepchild and the curly haired tard Monday night. I'd really like to see the red haired guy win, but I think he's going to lose focus in the ring and plain old fury might not win him the fight.
The one trainer guy with the mohawk- Lidell?- reminds me of my psycho uncle, who also enjoys a good fight. It's weird how most of those guys that look alike enjoy beating each other :P
