Im trying to get some things lined up however im looking for any department that is hiring. I know that Pittsburgh PD and also the PA State Police. Im looking for things in other parts of the state also. Im single and have no tie downs in Pittsburgh that would make me stay. Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly be appreciated

One quick note is that I do not think either Pitts PD or the PSP accept Act 120 and have you go through their Academy.

If you are certified you go through the city acadmy for 3 months at 13.60 an hour. If not certified it's 6 months long. The state no matter what you have makes you go through their acadmy 6 months long.

If you are certified for City of Pittsburgh then the academy is gonna be about 6 weeks. If you dont have you 120 then its over24 weeks. PSP dont care if ya got Act 120, you gotta do the while shebang with them yelling and screaming every step of the way. For Philly you have to LIVE in the CITY for a Year BEFORE even getting the letter for written test. SMall places in PA want Act 120 so they dont spend money on 2-3 guys in an academy.
Also go to www.*********************** nice sie and you can click on an individual state. Arizona is looking for boatloads of cops. Alittle warm there but it is growing.

Look around the Harrisburg area, Lancaster, Lebanon anywhere around there. They are growing. Best bet would be out of state though and make sure you check to see if they accept PA certification. I know GA does. Most states do, especially if they have a shorter academy class. GA POST is only 10 weeks long :)

PSP aren't going to be hiring for to long from what I hear. The great govener of Pa is cutting a big chunk of money for the PSP.

I hear a rumor last night that Pittsburgh may drop the 60 college credit requirement due to poor turn out of applications. That would be great if they did that then that means that I could apply. They projected to have about 500 applications turned in but have not received 100 yet. Hmmm maybe that should tell them something. Maybe if they would not have frozen their wages for 3 yrs there would be a better turn out.

ha, why am I not surprised that no one is applying for the city.
Lets see:
1. Morale is horrible
2. Pay freeze for the next few years (maybe even longer)
3. Pay for your benefits
4. As soon as the housing authority goes out of business, guess who will be walking a beat in the projects!!
5. Forget the 60 credits, it's the polygraph that's chasing them away.

Not worried about the polygraph I have nothing to hide. Just give me a chance to get to that point and I think I will do fine. But yeah, soon as the Housing Authority goes under that would be an interesting beat to say the least. They'll have to hire a few more than they expected but who wants to work in Pittsburgh besides the recent graduates of the academy?

I cant really speak too bad about my 10 yrs in the city. When i started we did 90% of the projects and they backed us up. But as time went on they really stepped up to the plate. As far as working for the city of picksburg as the natives call it- yeah morale is low, but there is a heck of a lot of experience to gain and that alone 'might' be worth it. Residency sux ***, pay right now isnt great considering a pay freeze at PO-1 for a few yrs. It should be called PO-1+ About 38,000 maybe BUT there is court time and details up the ying-yang. Really a great bunch of cops. As far as health bene's, every where people have to pay for benefits. Its a nationwide problem cause by I think excessive medical malpractice lawsuits.

Too true on the malpractice suits.
