CAJUN COP

I Have Been In Le For 12 Years Now And Considering Going Overseas To Teach At The Police Academy's Overthere. The Company Is Mpri And The Pay Is 13k A Month. I Would Be On A Military Compound And Would Not Have To Convoy Off The Site On A Daily Basis. I Know Several Cops Who Have Gone With Dynacorp And They Say How Bad It Was Because Of The Company Not The Location, Which Was Iraq. I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Heard Any More War Stories From Other Officers Over There.

I have not heard anything but good things from the guys I have been talking to. I am in the hiring process with dyncorp. I am hoping to go over in the near future. I have been talking to three guys online who are over there now and two of them are with Dyncorp. I am also looking for as much info as I can get.

Welpe, I have heard good AND bad from Iraq. I know more than one who has left the mission because of conditions there. I haven't been in Iraq, but did two missions for DynCorp in Kosovo .
My advice: know WHY you want to go. Research the company (or companies) you want to work for. Consider your sources.
Above all else, good luck.

Take the war stories with a grain of salt. Some people will have nothing good to say, but it is only because they felt like they were some how slighted by the company, and they know they can trash the company. Others will have nothing bad to say, but that is because they are on the adventure of a lifetime, just happy to be away from home for a year , or something similar.
I have no first hand knowledge about Iraq, but my experience in Bosnia was it was a better gig than most people said it would be, and at times it really sucked. In short, go with the flow.
I have heard many rumors about Dyncorp, but my partner in Bosnia has worked for them for most of 6 years since then. He tells me they pay on time, and that working for them has not changed much. If you go to work for them, read the contract. Do not go on what you have been "told", read the contract. When I worked for them, they honored the contract to the letter. I had my international experience in Bosnia, and I have no desire to go to Iraq. If I did, I would work for Dyncorp again, but I would also look at all the job opportunities before I chose one.

I hope you do mind me jumping in on this thread. I found it while looking through the boards. I retired from the USCG and have a lot of maritime LE and marine operations instructor experience. Can any of you gentlemen recommend a company that may have need for these skills?
I have answered a lot of adds only to find out that they are just "collecting names" for future assignments and I am growing tired of placement companies in the business of speculating about "future needs".
Thank you

Cajun, just because you're on a military compound (http://www.big-boys.com/articles/incoming.html) doesn't mean things can't really go to sh**!
jhndrac, I was in Doboj 99-00 and Banja Luka 01-02. I agree 100% with what you said. Most important thing...READ THE CONTRACT!

I have done a lot of research on company's in Iraq and MPRI is a very good one!!!!! They are taking over the SAIC contract the first part of April, for the Police Acadamy in Iraq. This contract is very large and pays very well $13,000.00 a month plus room and board. Further unlike Dyna you dont leave the compound and dont do escorts. I have spoken to someone who is there right now working for SAIC and he loves it.
Take care and do Research!!!!!!!!!!!
