Hi all,
Looking to lateral to an agency in the South East metro area. Specifically looking at Englewood or Littleton. Possibly Sheridan but they migth be too small. Any info on these agencies or any others in the South East area would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like you ment to say South West. However, I've heard that greenwood village, lonetree, parker, Arapahoe County Sheriff, Douglas County Sheriff, Jefferson County Sheriff,City and county of broomfield, Golden, Are all hiring or will be hiring soon.

Most PD's in CO are hiring right now as their populations grow. Jeffco SO are looking to add 30 to their Patrol Div. Englewood is small, understaffed and busy. It's not unusual for them to send a single officer to a domestic. Littleton are a good dept, and may be getting a new PD. Can I ask why you have decided on these depts?

I'm thinking about moving to the Castle Rock area but don't want to work there. Would like to be at a PD that's busy but don't want to go through the academy again.

You are not exactly providing yourself with the greatest selection of agencies... Of those you listed, I would only consider Littleton. They seem to have money and some good officers. Englewood is busy as mentioned, but doesn't have great financial resources and I hear from officers their they are frequently minimally staffed. I would not consider Sheridan. I have heard good things about Parker PD. They are very slow, but the city is growing and have some great opportunities for advancement. Obviously money isn't a problem. Unless you want to be bored stiff, don't consider Lone Tree or Greenwood Village. Broomfield has a good department, but that's probably too much of a commute.

I know you said you were interested in only the SW metro area but you might want to look at Colorado Springs. They have a good dept. and they do accept lateral transfers. I don't think the drive would be that much more then going to Denver.

Thanks for the replies. The reason why I'm looking at some of the smaller PD's is because I currently work at a really small agency out East and don't want to lateral to a much larger one. Also, don't want to start out in the jail. Had a buddy who use to work for Englewood before lateralling over to Aurora. Said lots of good things about Englewood. Said they were really busy, lots of hot calls, but like everyone else stated, short on manpower. I guess their city is about the same size as one of Aurora's districts but it wouldn't be unusual to only have 3 cops working the city while Aurora would have 6 or 7. The last time I called they were supposedly hiring. I may also look into Parker or Edgewater.

If you looking into EPD, look into their budget issues. Some of these smaller depts are very close to cutting cops because of serious budget problems.
