"Lost" Quick Kill (QK) Rifle Shooting Method

I just finished setting up a web page with info on the US Army's Quic Kill rifle shooting method that has been "lost" for many years. It was taught in the 70's and used in Vietnam.

Rifle QK is a fast and spontaneous unaimed shooting method that is accurate at very close ranges out to 50 meters using service weapons. It was taught to US Army recruits as part of their basic marksmanship training, and BEFORE they were taught sight shooting.

The recruits were taught to hit 2 1/2 inch and 3 1/2 inch disks thrown up into the air in front of them using a BB rifle by just looking/focusing on the target and pulling the trigger.

No sights, no aiming, no problem.

It is very easy and quick to learn.

I used an airsoft pistol that I morphed into a "carbine" so that I could test the method at home in the garage using a swinging target. It works great.

A person who knows how to use it, could be formidable foe in an airsoft shoot, or FOF training. If interested, check this out:

PISTOL MORPHED INTO A "CARBINE"

Here is a link to info on how I morphed an airsoft pistol into a "carbine" for testing the method. It includes my test results with pics.

BB TRAP

And here is info on how to build your own "airsoft" BB trap from very inexpensive materials. It also has info on how you can mount the target on a length of pipe so it functions as a big swinging pendulum with a target in the middle. The info was recently updated and now includes notes on how to reinforce it for use with a metal BB/pellet pistol.

AIRSOFT AERIAL TARGET SHOOTS

I can see Airsoft individual and team shoots similar to trap/shotgun shoots being held in the near future indoors and outside.

All that is needed is for some clever person to come up with a suitable disk for use as an aerial target and a machine to toss them. Disks with a replaceable paper center may be one idea.

Happy Holidays

And a technique that added to the low hit ratio - what was it, 1 hit for every 100,000 rounds fired? If this worked so well, why isn't still used? Dasy tried marketing it as "Quick Skill", it faded fast.

Daisy may have dropped it, as they probably advocate shooting as a sport, and target shooting by kids as a good thing, not using guns as an excellent means of stopping threats (as in stopping/killing animals or people to stop them).

The latter would not seem to be the best of marketing approaches in our politically correct society.

Why not ask them? And let us know what they say about that.

The QK rifle method as taught by the US Army works for me, and on stationary or moving targets. I did not find it necessary to shoot disks out of the air to prove to me that it works.

I believe the Army had recruits learn how to do that, to build their confidence in their "natural" shooting ability.

As I understand it, the method was taught to "new" shooters and PRIOR TO training them to use the sights. It also called for almost a one to one instructor/student ratio, so it probably got to be to expensive, or some general did not approve of it as appropriate, or whatever.

My interest is in what is simple and what works.

The information is FREE.

Hopefully it may be used by police officers and home defenders to improve their chances of staying alive in a close quarters life or death situation.

BTW, have you tried it and found that it does not work???

Call it what you want. It is still taught in moderation by some. It is call Reflex Shooting, Point Shooting, Snap Shooting, whatever. Anyone had to shoot from a weapon retention position with weapon near the side of the body for qualification? It is now taught AFTER proper technique and handling have been comprehended. As I see it, if this QK "skill" is taught first, it gives the student the opportunity to develop bad habits and poor form that will be difficult to correct. It is a waste of time to delve into this further.

Rather than starting a new thread, and risking making waves or rocking the boat, below is a link to a page that introduces two short videos of a test I just made using AIMED Point Shooting or P&S while moving.

(Guess who bought himself a Kodak digital camera for Christmas that takes short videos?) :)

I knew that P&S works just fine when moving, but did not have a video.

The page also carries pics of target hits.

My next step is to get our local range to let me use the LEO side where one can move and shoot; and then video that.
