Anyone try one yet? Looks like it may be some competition for Glock.

Felt good in my hand. Shot accurately, but had a poor trigger pull. Lot's of slack before the trigger resets, then more slack as you start the trigger pull again.

A friend of mine has an XD-40 that I have shot a couple of times. I was fairly impressed, it seemed to be reasonably accurate with a pretty light trigger pull by DAO standards. I have seen it jam three times, all with american eagle flat nose ammo. These all occured fairly soon after the gun was purchased so it might just need some break in time. I am not a fan of glock or DAO, if I had to buy something in that catagory it would be an XD.

My department is currently adopting the XD .40 as the department firearm. I have completed the armorer's course from Springfield armory on the XD. It is a truly terrific firearm. I am also a glock fan, thier weapons are great also.

My officers that I have transitioned, only four at present have fell in love with the XD, it is very very accurate, reliable and has a better grip than the glock.

I still prefer my 1911 SA Loaded .45acp, but I will have to give it up shortly I suppose. My officers constantly give me a hard time about having the XD or the 1911 on my side....I tell them as the Chief I am also in charge of "R-n-D", this of course means Reasearch and development!!!

Chief, is the trigger pull similiar to the Glock? I have tried the Sig DAO guns and found them not to my liking. It felt like I was waiting forever for the "bang".

No, I consider the trigger pull to be very similar to the Glock. It was smooth and with a crisp break. A larger city in my area issues Glock 23's. I let a couple of thier officers shoot my XD 40 and XD9. They both raved about the pistol.

This gun is going to have a large impact on the LEO market, SA just needs to get going on the marketing issues.

If you would like I have the armorer's manual. I could mail you a Xerox copy. PM me with your info if you wish.

Be Safe!

WPD80:

Does your decision to adopt the XD as your department's issued sidearm have anything to do with your proximity to their corporate headquarters?

yes, for service related issues only. When I first did this test the HK and the Glock and Sig as well as the Smith was incorp into the test. I realize service would not be a main issue. I did look at other departments in my area, some with Pop more than 60,000 and they are too looking at the XD, the city of Silvis and Kewanee both with 25 or more officers have issued the XD.
