Hi all- I retired from the NY State police after 20+ years, mostly in the NYC area. Worked in corporate security in NYC for nearly 10 years, and now live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, about 50 miles from Lake Tahoe. I am a Probation Officer, and I love it!

I am currently on the eligible list of the NYSP. I received my letter for further processing in the first round of call backs after the exam. At the time I deferred it. So I will most likely be called for further processing next time around. I know it is a very, very competitive department to get into.

From your experience, do you have any advice which may be helpful to myself and others who are currently pursuing a career with the NYSP? Or any stories you may have to share.
