I recently moved from Maine to Florida and I'm looking for any type of law enforcement job in the Tampa/Orlando area. I am interested in working either as a probation officer or police officer. I've applied to several positions through the State's people first electronic job system and was wondering how long it usually takes to start getting replies back or any other steps I should take? I have a bachelor's degree and some law enforcement training in Maine. I know I'd have to go to basic either way. If anyone is familiar with the process in Florida and has any information I'd gladly appreciate it. I also filled out an application to the Tampa Police Department for their scholarship, which pays for the academy and supplies if you sign a contract.

The state is a lot like the feds.. sometimes they will contact you within days, other times it will take several months. depends on manpower and funding. In the Tampa area most agencies use the PASS testing process before you can apply to the agency.

I thought you could self-sponsor throught the Community Colleges BLET programs in Florida? Others on this board have done that and it seems the way to go in that state.

I think most of the training centers in FL will let you self-sponsor now, but some, like in Broward, do not. But what I was saying about the Tampa area.. If I'm correct, most of the agencies in the Tampa/St. Pete area got together on this testing process so that all officers in the area have to pass the same background and testing process.
