Anyone on the boards a recruiter for their department? My wife has been transfered to the Indianapolis area and I am in the process of looking at various departments throughout the area. I have been a cop in SW Florida for 8 years with a spotless record, but I still get no responses to emails to recruiters.

Anyone know how the process generally goes? It seems that many of the recruiters I have dealt with do not want to be bothered answering any questions through email or telephone. Besides a ride-a-long, how else am I supposed to gain information on departments on the other side of the country?

Do they actively look over pre-applications sent to them for good candidates or they just thrown in a file for the upcoming tests? I have found several departments that I am interested in but I am afraid of irritating the recruiter with questions. Any suggestions?

Yeah, the e-mail route isn't always the best route for information. Call up the department, or stop by, and pick up an application.

One factor that may be of importance: Do you know if your FL police officer certification transfers over to Indiana's standards?
(ie - equivalency met through a "waiver of basic training")

I would imagine an 8-year vet would have little problem obtaining lateral transfer status, but check out the following page (click on Indiana) just to make sure your cert is valid:

Directly contacting the departments that you are interested in working for is probably your best bet. Have you already looked at their webpages for "hiring/employment info?"
You may also want to get in touch with the human resource department or city clerk's office as well in case they are the ones responsible for taking applications and whatnot (they should also have further hiring info). Just some ideas...g'luck!
