Here's a question for everyone. I'm going to lose my current job come Jan. and know that I probably won't get hired as an LEO anytime soon...I did take the CT State Police exam this weekend (actually heard they may be doing another academy in Jan. which would be good) and I'm taking Greenwich CT next month. But the average process takes longer then 5-6 months...

...so here is my problem. What should I do between this job I am losing and a hopeful position in LE? I'm trying to leave my current job as quickly as possible. Should I stay in the profession I am? Or take a huge paycut and become a security officer at a local college or something...have any of you had this problem?

Sorry for the ramble.

I would say stay with the job that will pay you the most and you're happiest with. Certainly don't become a security guard because you think it might help...it won't. If there are any openings, you could always try to get a civilian job within a police department such as a dispatcher or community service officer.

Not a bad idea Patrick. The money issue is my biggest one. I can't afford a huge paycut...and honestly I don't think I'd be happy doing campus security or any security for that matter. It's different. No offense to all the security people out there. The college I went to the security guards were all retired LEO's...that's what I imagine it being not someone my age.
