I have been an officer in Wisconsin for 9 years, 7 full time and the last 2 part-time. I am going to be re-locating to the Tampa, Florida area in the next few months and am looking for any help on Part-time police jobs in that area. Does anyone have suggestions as far as departments that hire part-time officers and or how I could go about finding any information that may lead me in the right direction. I would appreciate any help at all.

The internet and google are your friend. If you know it's in the Tampa area, just look at a map and start your research online. There's also links on this website and some of the other big officer sites out there to get you started. I highly suggest applying as an out-of-state applicant while you're a current officer, and NOT quitting, moving to FL, and then applying. That's unusual, risky, and you always have to get around the question of why you quit without a new leo job lined up. Is there a reason you want part time vs full time?

I went from full-time to part-time here in Wisconsin, as my brother and I started a business. I work that full-time and we are now expanding to Florida, which is why I am moving and would like to land a part-time position there. I hope that helps.

Both TPD and the HCSO have reserve officers/deputies, which are as close to part-time officers as it gets around here. I think there's one agency in Pinellas County (Bellaire Beach, possibly) that employs only part time officers.

Basically, as a reserve you are not paid for the time you spend on patrol. After your first year, you can work the same off-duty details that regular officers work, and you're paid at the contracted rate of pay for off-duty work. Still, that's the only way that a reserve officer makes money. You aren't going to get paid working the streets--that's all volunteer.
