I'm looking to get some info on KYPD, if anyone is on here, that works there. Or, Maybe some of the Monroe crew will have some useful 43 for me.
Thanks...Be Safe

be prepared to pay $1000 a month for a room to live in,
the high cost of living prohibits just about any new hires to
live in monroe county unless they live close to miami.
although it looks preety in post cards or to visit, don't wanna
end up in the poor house quicker than other people.

Thank Ft.Lauderdale... A buddy of mine that is up here where I live is really pressing me to look into it, but I know another buddy that works for Monroe is almost on Food Stamps because of cost of living. I keep leaning towards BSO.. Guess I need to cart my happy self down there and do a ride-a-long or two..

Cost of living is ridiculous. You will have to commute an hour to work to afford a 1 BR apartment.

I'm just curious. There are a few areas like this around the country where a cop (or teacher, or firefighter, etc.) can't afford to live near the community where he/she works. I know there was a lot of that in the SF area when the dot-com market was rolling. Have any departments looked into subsidized housing or something similar for officers to attract more candidates?

it's becoming that way in ft lauderdale, broward county fla
we have a lot of people living north 1 or 2 counties, it's to bad
they won't have a say in local politics when the boss and the county commission are up for re election, 2 income professionals are doing ok, it's the single guy if ya don't save every nickle and dime to get a house yr in trouble, the property tax's well eat ya alive as well

I was wondering about that Ft. Laud.. I've been leaning towards BSO to process with, but I have been hesitent, and now I see why. I've been trying to find someone that doesn't mind speaking the truth about the agency (ob. w/out releasing their personal 43). I know how backlash is and works. I have heard good things about PBCSO, but I have also heard they are a bitch to get on with.. Real political, or being at the right place at the right time kinda deal.

If you're concerned about the cost of living, why not look at the Tampa Bay area? HCSO's starting salary is higher than BSO's, and the cost of living isn't anywhere near as high. TPD is the highest paid agency outside of Dade and Broward counties, and many of the other agencies around here start out in the mid to upper 30's.
Just something to think about....

I came to broward county when spring break was still hot,
i was in my mid 20's and every night was party night, and when
you could get misd arrest's by the bushel basket, felony's like
pickin oranges off tree's, and a leader who was all about kickin ***** and takin names, the county commission is determined to jam pack
hundreds of thousands of people down here, the imports from dade county don't help the situation, the school system is not up to par as what yer paying tax's for, from a place that was a modern paradise 20 yr's ago, ya see people fleeing and moving up north specially to raise yer kids in a similiar culture and who's lifestle and values are not crammed down yer throat. the tampa bay area is running out of fresh water to drink, they are building plants to make freshwater from salt water, the population is mixed but one day may be like south fla in 20 yr's, get all the info ya can before making that decision, in 2008 see la later broward county !

Hey Patrick..
I'm in the process with HCSO, but my recruiter seems to be tending to his own agenda, and not recruiting people. So I am playing the waiting game. I guess that since he is the "almighty recruiter" he can spread a line of BS.. Like I have seen that being a recruiter and FTO myself.. Oh well.. Just another game or two.. lol
