I am attempting to get a security position with a major university where I live. Unfortunately I never seem to make it past the first interview. (6 interviews for 6 different listings)

What I think is holding me up is the fact that I was asked to resign after one year during a two year probationary period.

I was asked to resign because I missed removing a computer generated exam from the computer in a timely manner (over 1/2 hour) and for cuffing a person who assaulted my daughter while I was off duty. Both are considered proceedural errors by U.S. Customs. Because no local agency recognizes my Customs Acadamy training I cannot get into local law enforcement without graduating the local police acadamy. (I am over 50 and do not have the money at this time.)

I have always been honest during these interviews. What else can I do to get past this hurdle?

I hate to say this, but being asked to resign by another dept is a hurdle many former officer's cannot get over (from what I've seen). If you can't get past the oral board with this university, it looks like they've determined you aren't going to be hired with them. I'd look for other positions elsewhere. You may want to search other employment options at the same time

Good luck
