Dear Madam/Sir:
I am a highly motivated 21-year-old male seeking employment in the field of Law enforcement. I am hardworking and dedicated. I have a degree in Criminal Justice from Hudson Valley Community College. I am also a New York State certified EMT-B and a volunteer firefighter. I am very interested in being able to attend a part time police academy while I am attending college at SUNY Potsdam where I am pursuing a bachelor

Every part time academy that I have seen will require you to pay your own way through and beyond that, it will be quite hard to do while getting your BS degree unless you are taking a very light load and not working. Go online and start looking around at the various academies to see if they offer an extended academy though and if you have the funds, put yourself through or wait untill you finish your BS and then go to a full time academy.

I didn't think you could attend a police academy in New York unless you were sponsored by an agency? I know you can attend the basic parts of the course but most of it is reserved for sworn officers only.

I'm not exactly up on NY as I live in SoCal but I'd call around and find out or post again in the Ask a Cop section with NY acadmey as your title or something similar. Somebody knows for sure. Also, who says you have to stay in NY, CT, NJ, all are close and NJ has some of the most high speed departments in the country.

Hey, I'll go ANYWHERE to be able to get a job in the LE field. Law Enforcement is so competitive you really have to explore every option. If any out of state agencies happen to run across my post, shoot me an email and I will be happy to discuss things with you. I would like, however to finish my BS in Criminal Justice before I move.
