NYPD question, kinda embrassing.

Well, first off I know this question has been asked to death but not by anyone applying to NYPD.
My record is clean, I'm pretty straight edge and I have my degree and stuff.
But there was an experimental stage where I did smoke up twice in my life will they ask me? will it stop me from pursueing a carrer with NYPD? I was too embrassed to ask my recruiter because I was so stupid to try it in the first place.

If you want to know if police agencies ask previous drug use for police candidates, then the answer is yes. Some agencies post what is acceptable, like frequency and recency...sorry, but I'm not familiar with NYPD. Have you checked out their website?

I have done some research in that area, FBI is not within 3 years and not more than 3 times EVER, that was the last time I checked, it is possible to have changed but I dont know how strict they are on that. Most local dept. are not within two years and ten times. Some cities don't care how many times as long as it hasnt been within so many years (average I have heard is 5 years.) Just don't lie about it on your polygraph, most places I know of are looking for an honest human who has understood their mistakes in life and learned from them.

It does change from place to place so just keep your nose clean and if you still hang out with people that do it, I'd say to maybe rethink your friendship with them. It is tough but anybody you associate with will hinder your hiring process if they are still into smoking pot.

If they ask, tell them about it. If you don't, and they find out, you'll be bounced for sure. I honestly don't know of too many people that haven't at least tried Pot in the past. Of course, if it was in the past month or so, you may have a problem!

I "experimented" in college, I told my background investigator the truth, and I am now a member of the NYPD, relax...you'll be fine.

Tell your investigator that you never smoked marihuana or did drugs and pass the dole test. Probationary officers are entering the academy without completing their application process just to fill the seats.

The NYPD needs people so badly, they'd likely hire you if you told them you sniffed blow that AM. Don't sweat it - just be honest.

Sniffing blow that AM? Sad, but true. You'll get hired. Just be honest. If you lie, you WILL get bounced. Don't mess with internal affairs.
