Anybody use a holster attached to their vest under the uniform shirt? I have a S&W 642 that I'm considering carrying this way. Any experience with it? Thanks

I have a cheap $10 Uncle Mikes vest holder that works out well. The only draw back is sometimes the gun can shift and gives the man-boob effect. Overall I like the holster. I have never had any problems with the gun coming loose or falling out or anything like that.

I bought what sounds like the same Uncle Mike's holster when I carried a 642 also. I too experienced the 'uni-boob' effect no matter what strap I attached it to. Though I never needed it, my holster came with a removeable velcro strap to secure the firearm in the holster.

When I switched to my 3913 I dumped the holster and modified my vest's trauma plate pocket to conceal my BUG. With some simple stitching and added velcro I created a spot that is easily accessible with either hand, is virtually undetectable even if someone knows it's there and (hopefully) provides a little extra protection over my heart.

I carry my Sig 239 in .40 S&W in the same set up. I don't really have the mono-boob problem though.

I carry a .45 cal SIG concealed in a holster sewn onto the front of my vest. It doesn't move around at all.

Not sure if this is true or not, but I heard of an officer that carried a BUG on the front of the vest. The officer was shot, and one of the rounds hit the inserted magazine, causing a mass detonation. From what I heard, the officer would have survived the shooting if it hadn't been for the mass detonation of the rounds in the magazine. A vest is designed to take multiple rounds, but not a mass detonation.

Whether this story I heard is true or not, it is something to think about.

For those that are interested, First Choice Armor has a shirt that can be worn separately for over a vest that has a built in holster and mag pouch, etc. Check it out on my web site, [URL=http://www.defensiveweaponsystems.com/Equipment/First%20Choice/uc_comfort_holster_system.htm#UC_Comfort_Holster_S ystem
