The City of Oak Ridge (cortn.org) will accept applications through Friday, March 19, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. for the position of Public Safety Communications Officer. Applicants must have completed high school; must be NCIC Certified with one year of communications related experience; and must be able to deal with people tactfully and efficiently under extremely stressful situations. Public Safety Communications Officers work rotating shifts and perform a variety of crucial duties including operating a multi-line telephone with both administrative and 911 lines for police, fire, and ambulance emergency and operating a multi-channel radio system for communications with police, fire and medical units along with various other city departments. Position includes monitoring fire and burglar alarms; collecting and recording information pertinent to calls for service; and using various computerized databases for the entry and retrieval of information such as wanted persons, stolen property, criminal histories and vehicle and driver license information. Starting salary $ 24,419 per year or $ 11.74 per hour with liberal fringe benefits. Successful applicant will be subject to background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination and drug screening.
