Im 24 right now and have been interested in being an police officer since high school but now I have a good job working Mon-Fri. 3-midnight.My question, is it possible for me to still be a reserve and have a schedule that works around that?Also any good advise on how to get started please let me know. Thanks for the help.

You might want to ask your local PD. All I can say is "depends".

Yes, it depends.

The thing that matters is the reserve academy's schedule. Something tells me that most reserve academies will have schedules that will conflict with your current work schedule. The only way to know for sure is to check with your local department.

Im located in Texas.I talked to the Chief of the local PD today.He said with my hours at work that it will be hard to go through the academy,being its 8 hours long a day.He said the best thing would be to get my associates in criminal justice then go strait to the state exam.Whats your advise?

I'm in TX as well.....you Associates in Criminal Justice alone will not get you to the TCLEOSE exam. You still need to complete an accredited academy (unless something has changed in the last five years). We had guys going through my class with bachelor degrees. Most of them are six months long and consitst of eight hour + days. The state says that an academy must be something like 600 hours or something like that. Some of them run 10 month academies that go from 1800-2200 in the evening however. I'll be happy to point you towards reserve friendly departments in TX however.

Thanks Pedalin,.. for the info. The evening coarse would be great if I could change my schedule at work( which is almost impossible)but im still calling around to get the times for the academy in my area.If all else fails Ill wait till my work hours allow it.If you have any advise on what I can do to prepare in the meantime or any other info please let me know ..thanx
