Running Cadences

I am looking for police specific cadences for our academy runs. I hear and know most of the military ones, but am looking for something new. Seeing as we are real close to a base here we don't need anymore of those cadences.

You have more important things to focus on then what rhyme or song you run to in the academy portion of your career. You are training to stay alive and return home every night so FOCUS on the training it can and will save your life.To put it bluntly if in my class you already would have been on a watch list.

I don't appreciate your reply Bodie. It came across very rude to me. Since you don't have a PM button, I had to post this here.
For your information, we are required to come up with a cadence as part of our training on how to do research. Sorry if I came across to you as some dumb kid. I have already attended one academy, have been in the military for 12 years (still in the reserve) and know all about focus and keeping myself and my fellow brothers and sisters from getting killed.
Next time you feel the need to make such a responce to someone, consider who you might be talking to. And try using the PM button.

I would contact some of the larger police agencies throughout the US. Like LA, NY, Houston and see what they can tell you. I went through in '94 and didn't have any then either. Military ones were all that we sang. Seems like someone would have put a bunch together by now.

The cadences we used in my acadamy was a mix of Marine Corps and Army cadences. All what you have to do is switch some of the wording around. (i.e. instead of using "give me that ol' Marine Corps spirit..." we used "Give me that ol' Policeman spirit.."

Thanks, guys!! Appreciate it. I have a freind who is a retired NYPD detective. I am going to PM him and see if he can get a few from the academy if they use them there.
I re-wrote a couple from the AF PJ/CCT cadences that I found. We shall see what I can come up with.

We had a few military cadences that we would alter to fit police more. But of course I cant remember any :confused: Sorry?

What an attitude. Better in the Military then on the streets I feel sorry for you partner.
I have been trained and handled training and there are more IMPORTANT things then a cadence to do pt running to that should be the focus of training. Sorry you didn't appreciate my attitude or tone but get used to it you'll run into it again and agin throuhout your career.

Just did a search on excite.com for "running cadences." Turned up quite a few. Check it out along with some other search engines and I am sure you can fit some in to LE mode.

Geez, take a deep breath and relax Bodie. I doubt he is neglecting his training to come up with cadences. Like he already pointed out, coming up with cadences is required by his academy. What is he supposed to do, tell them no? It is possible to train properly AND come up with a few short cadences you know. If you didn't like his question, don't answer it then. Doesn't look like you offered him any useful information anyway.

i graduated from the NYPD academy a couple of months ago, most of the tactics instructors were military so they changed some words around in their cadences to fit PD. .....and Bodie why are you so anti-cadence? We ran 2-3 miles a day with 250 bodies in a gym that barely fit a full size basketball court, cadence helped keep some sanity. "....when i say 7 you say 8, when i say how you feel, you say great!!" Come on Bodie sing along:p

I am not anti cadence and I think most departments neglect PT and that includes MAKING officers walk and run for exercise to stay fit for duty. I guess I have other areas of importance.

The academy I went to had cadets from several different agencies, so we had some friendly rivalry going on. I should also point out that in this area city badges are typically silver in color, while county badges are gold colored.

The cadence:

I don't know but it's been said
City badges are made of lead
I don't know but I've been told
Deputy badges are made of gold

Fancy cars and equipment are nice
but call Deputies, if you need men not mice.

thye sell cadence tapes in us calvary- police-miliytary equipment magazine. one of the better tapes was from force recon-usmc.

actually a good motivator...when ya reach that...extra 10 to 15 pound
mark..then ya can jog to that.

I'd just alter the cadences. It's easy. Police work is paramilitary and there is nothing wrong with cadences. Some want to get rid of uniforms, haircuts, discipline, etc. That's wrong.
