Hi, Im in my second semester of college right now and I want to be a police officer. Right now im looking to major in criminal justice but after reading some posts, they say not to. So would it be a good idea to change my major to something else so I have something to fall back on if I dont make it as a cop??

I say yes. I got my degree in CJ and I honestly can't say that it helped me to get a job any more than any other I degree I could have gotten. I think most departments are more interested in the fact that you have a degree, not necessarily if it is in CJ. If I had it to do over again, I'd look more towards something like business administration. In my experience, the higher rank one makes, the more it becomes like running a business and less like policing. I think a degree that would prepare you for that would be more beneficial down the road. Just my two cents.

I don't think I would make it taking any other major. Criminal Justice is the only thing I can get interested in, so I'll pass those courses

Don't spend years of college getting a degree you have no interest in just so you can have "something to fall back on". Reason being, what if you did decide to get a degree in something other than Criminal Justice, say for instance math, history, or English. What the heck are you going to fall back on with those degrees? Nothing. Get a degree in whatever you enjoy studying. If you enjoy studying Criminal Justice, then get a degree in it. School is so much more enjoyable when you are actually interested in the material you're required to study.

I agree with future and chase, no matter how good a student you are you will be a better student if you study something you enjoy. Don't be a CJ major because you think it will help you get a LE job, however if CJ is what you love then go for it.
