I am currently reading the book "Left Behind" which is the first in a series of books (I believe 12) about the end of the world. Very much based on a Christian viewpoint and, obviously, fiction however it does take its points from the bible and the book of Revelations.
Curious if anyone is reading or have read the series and your thoughts. It is an interesting read, religious or not. I highly recommend it if you think it might interest you.

In the world of Christian Theology, there seem to be 4 major Disclaimer: This post addresses Christian theology and my personal beliefs. I am not trying to push my beliefs upon you, only share what my perspective is. Please do not be offended. The nature of these books requires (IMO), a diligent discussion on the surrounding theological doctrine so the books are fully understood.
Whew, ok, now on to my post...
I've read all of them and I really enjoyed them.
I'm not sure how far you are into the book, nor what you beliefs are so I'm going to possibly put some stuff you already know. Forgive me if that's the case. :)
A bit of background. The Rapture as defined in the theological sense and believed by many Christians, is God taking His church of believers into heaven from the physical world.
The Tribulation is prophesized in the Bible as 7 years (some say it's longer) in which God lays out his judgements on the world. At this time, God is being a little more blunt in revealing Himself. I suppose as a final chance for people to accept who He is and why He came to earth in the first place and died on the cross. This does not seem like a good time on earth.
The Second Coming of Christ is when God returns to the earth as Christ and becomes King of the believers still alive on earth.
There is debate between different Christian Theological groups regarding the accuracy of the books in regards to the Rapture, etc.
They are, a Rapture before the 7 year Tribulation (called Pre-Tribulation), a Rapture in the middle of the Tribulation, a Rapture at the end of the Tribulation and finally no physical rapture and tribulation at all.
The authors of the Left Behind series, LaHaye and Jenkins take a Pre-Tribulation approach to writing their books. So the rapture happens before the tribulation, etc. That is what the first book is about, the Rapture and then the immediate aftermath. The rest of the books follow the various periods of the Tribulation, including the Battle to end all Battles at Armageddon.
I feel the overall message prestend by LaHaye and Jenkins is a good one. The books themselves are rather simplistic in language, and are quick reads.
Sorry for the long, Theological post but I hope someone finds it interesting. :D

The books are great - the movies are great .... there is another book too if you like the Left Behind series just thought I'd suggest. It's called ESCAPE THE COMING NIGHT by Dr. David Jeremiah. It's an "EDGE OF YOUR SEAT" kind of book and intelligently written, but easy to read/follow. Try that one, I highly recommend it if you haven't read it already.

Book of Revelation not Revelations. John only had one.
One of those things I just can't let go. :)
