Disregard if sensitive.

I have heard on the news that STG is now a full time group. I have two questions relating.

1. Is this true?
2. If so, since STG is ready to go, whats going to happen to the AOS teams? Surely it makes sense to send the team that can go right then rather than waiting the 30mins-1hour for AOS? They seem a bit redundant now....

Cheers!

I've always understood (though I may be wrong) That STG was designed more for the Anti Terrorist Role in the Domestic role and to work hand in hand with SAS troops who work in the Black Role, rather than the Green Role.

Also, (again I'm surmising here), but after the mass killing in the South Island in 1990????? The shooter Gray, where a Police Sergeant and approx 6 to 8 civilians were killed.

STG was full established.

I only hope that NZ does not follow the QLD style (Thought Im not sure how many Special Groups the other States have)

Where they have two SERT(Special Emergencey and Responce Team)stationed at Brisbane and Townsville.

I believe that every major city or every Police Region should have a AOS type unit, whether they be full time or part-time.

I no for a fact, that on the Gold Coast here, we have numerous Fire Arm call outs and the stupid thing is, Our Inspectors, must get authorisation (District Commander or Higher) to bring down a SERT unit (Some thing to do with Costs) and even then, it takes time for them to assemble and move to which ever location they are required.

At least with a Regional Unit, whether it be part time or full time, there locals, they no the area and the people, and time is cut dramaticly.

HOWEVER, I am also aware in these cost cutting days, and the power of politics and accountablility, that to have a full time unit or units, stratigicly placed is cost effective

Thats why I hate the bean counters
Policing cant be done, if some one is over your shoulder, counting the money and saying, we cant afford that or that will cost us.
