Ok, here's the dilly yo - I smoke, too much I might add.
Seems when I am working a case or my mind is deep in paperwork, I smoke way too much. I actually would like to quit but, cant find a way that will work.
Any tips or suggestions?

And snuff is out cause everyone else rubs/dips and I would have to get a second job to support their habit!
First off I want to say *I DO NOT SMOKE*
At the beginning of the week I spend 40 mins cutting up veggies (carrots, celery, etc) and putting them in water in tupperware. Every time I'm hungry and feeling lazy (where I would have gotten chips or other crap) I grab veggies. My friend applied that to quit smoking and so far so good.
But then again, you could turn orange from eating too many carrots... :D ;)

I used to smoke 3 packs of Lucky Strikes a day!!! I never believed in this but. I really wanted to quit "BAD" but just couldnt get away from them. I friend of mine told me he was hypnotized and quit. I though he was full of S#$% but wanted to quit so bad I was willing to try anything. I got my hands on a hypnotist tape and listened to it. Well, afterwards I felt no different and thought, I knew it wouldnt work. I sat down to supper and afterwards waited for "that urge" to have a smoke. Well, it never came back. I've been smoke free for about 13 years and hate the smell of them. Hey give it a try. What do you have to loose. Only catch is you really have to want to quit......

I used to smoke 25-30 a day. When I got seriously out of breath after an hour-long (or so it seemed - probably only about 2 minute) struggle with a maddy, I decided to quit.
I had tried a couple of times previously by going cold turkey. It never worked because of the mind-set when you go cold turkey. You know, you say to yourself that you will never smoke again, you've given it up for good, etc.
I found that this just made smoking more attractive.....!
This time I decided to totally change my mind-set. I told myself that I could have a smoke whenever I wanted to, I JUST CHOOSE NOT TO!!
When the cravings came, I just said, "No, I do want a smoke, but I won't just yet. Maybe a bit later on." I fooled my body that way. When the cravings got bad I just did that and a bit of exercise. I didn't have a smoke for 3 years after that.
Now, I find that, yes I have the occassional cigarette or cigar, but I am not addicted to the extent that I was.
In the last 5 years I have found I have maybe had 25 smokes...
It is important to do 2 things with this method:
(1) NEVER say you're quitting. This just sets you up for a fall...
(2) Remain totally and absolutely smoke-free for at least 2 years..after that you can reward yourself with the occassional cigar or cigarette without the massive addiction...
Anyhow, its worked for me.

What worked for me was to delay the decision to light up for ten minutes each time I wanted one. Usually, I forgot to notice when the 10 minutes was up, the urge was that fleeting.
Also, after I had a few days smoke free, I kept telling myself that I didn't want to go through those first few days again and I knew if I lighted up, I have to do that.
And I have no desire to smoke anything again, cigar or cigarette. In fact I really have trouble with other people's cigarette smoke. But I quit nearly 20 years ago. Good luck, you'll be glad you did once the you get past the initial stages.

I might add that a craving lasts on average 10 minutes or less. If you can get through those 10 minutes your good for a while.
I used the patch and it worked for a few months. I was clean and off the patch for 3 freakin moths.....but I got stressed out, somebody offered me one, and that was the end of that. Only took one cigarette to get me back on the wagon (off the wagon?). Although I'm not as bad as I was before (im using the whole delay method too) it still bothers me that I was clean for 3 months and started up again. GOOD LUCK!

Yeah:
Stress is the killer as far as giving up the cancer sticks goes.
Back when I was trying to quit I was stationed at a single Unit Station.
I made the decision to go cold turkey and it lasted for 6 months. Then I had to go to a dead baby call and all bets were off. I started again.
Though the really weird thing was...every time I started to quit whilst I was stationed there, I ended up starting again after attending a dead body call of some kind!
It really was freaking me out...It messed up my head that badly that I thought that these folks were dying BECAUSE I was trying to quit!!
Go figure...

That's the sticker, you have to never pick one up again. I kept reminding myself how hard it was to quit whenever I was tempted. I never want to go through quitting again!
