Hey, I've been reading these boards for the past few weeks (I found everything thoroughly interesting) and finally decided to become a litte more active.

I have been an Explorer for 2+ years now, and I have loved every minute of it. One thing you will NOT see from me is the one thing I can't stand about other Explorers: I will NOT try to equate myself to any of you real officers here, nor will I try to bolster my image with my Explorer title. I am at the bottom of the LE bucket (if I'm even in it) and I know it. If you see me flaunting my Explorerism (except in places where it is appropriate) please, feel all too free to flame me. Don't get me wrong, I love doing this and it's easily one of the best decisions I ever made, but I made it past the "wow I've got it in the bag now" stage a long time ago.

With that out of the way, I'd like to say a little about myself. I am 18 and a Senior at high school. I have a strong, knowledgable (hopefully) interest in firearms, so - if you don't mind - I might pop up once in a while in the Firearms section of this site. Besides my Explorerism, I also have a job as a Pay Lot attendant at the PD...again, the bottom of the food chain, but it's good money. Post any questions or comments here, if I'm welcome let me know, if I am not please do the same :). I hope to get to know you all as well as possible, there seems to be quite a few excellent people here.

Thanks for reading,

-OBird

Whats up? I'm Dan.

I just graduated High School and I am attending Community college near my house.

Do you plan to become a police officer after college?

if so, what are your plans to do so?

I plan to become a police officer and I am just wondering other peoples' process in which they are doing it.

Thanks

-Dan

Hey Dan,

Yes, currently I am planning on going into the LE field. I, like you, also plan to go to a community college near my home. In fact, all the Explorers that have gone to college from my post for an appropriate degree have gone to the same community college.

However, I am also toying with the idea of joining the National Guard, because (amongst other reasons, i.e. college money, feeling like I'm a worthwhile use of space) it helps to have military background on your application.

May I ask what classes you are taking for your LE carrer? I have trouble getting the big picture with this whole college thing...

Thanks for your help

OBird-
Very impressive first post...LOL I think you're gonna fit in around here...now, my boots need shined. hehehehe:D
Seriously, you seem very well "spoken" for your age and I am impressed by that...written communication is so important in an LE career and it looks like you have a great head start. Good luck to you!

Traffic*Goddess and brh0012,

Thank you very much for your kind words. It's rather comforting to know I'm welcome here, at least by someone :) .

Talk to you later,

-OBird

Hey again.. Sorry about taking so long. I am right now just takin CRJ101. Basic criminal justice class. which opens up doors for basically all other crj classes. I am taking other classes as well to get them over with. Its better to take the required non-major courses too. But i am takin a crj class to keep me motivated. I figure might as well take a class I am extremely interested in.

Community college is definitely a way to go. Get the same education just for a lot cheaper. :D The national guard is also a way to go. Whatever you see fit. Good luck with your travels.
