I am looking for agency's that have fixed wing aviation programs. I am a LEO with 5 years experience, a private pilot license and working on my ratings. I am thinking in a couple of years of trying to get on with an agency that has and utilizes their own aircraft. If you do have an aviation division, do you hire pilots that are cops or hire cops and make them your pilots?

My husband is a fixed wing pilot for the PA State Police. It is a specialized position that you must meet certain standards for before you are able to apply. Email me at TrafficGoddess@policehub.com if you would like further details.
Good luck!

A friend of mine who works for a local SO knows of two positions that were just filled for their aviation dept. They were both helo positions. The two guys who got them both had their private ticket, had less than 200 hours, and had been in LEO for 3 and 5 years. There was also max hieght and wieght standards that had to be met of course. They were hired into the positions and being sent to flight training for then next 9 months. I have heard the same is true of a couple of other local agencies here in Cent FL. I would imagine they had to sign some sort of contract - i.e.: they will work for the agency for x amount of years or be liable for the cost of training etc...
