I am currently a EMT-basic takeing a Paramedic course, not in the near future but when I get some medic experience I have thoguht about trying to be a tactical medic for my local ERT Team. what my question is, would it be better to come onto a team like that with no police expirence, or should I try and join the resevers or a full time department with my medic certification and try to join up that way? I'm just looking for a general idea of that I should try and do to obtain this postion. Ths is mostly like 5-8 years down the road for me yet. Thanks for any imput anyone has.

i dont know how your ert team works but i have policed at a couple of agencies and at both the tec med was part of the swat team. i got my emt-p after i was on the road as a cop.sooooooooooo, i have never heard of a non swat team member being on an ert. and being on swat usually means several years of solid road experience and a competitive process, if their are no medics on the team already you kinda have the fast track.
