BBC News - The Foreign Office has launched a campaign to recruit up to 200 Police Officers to serve in Iraq.

The volunteers, who will form a pool for duty in the region, will help maintain security and train the local police force.

Up to 100 are to be deployed at any one time, with the rest on standby, according the the Foreign Office.

Officials said the group would be armed and given special training, but would not include Officers currently authorised to carry firearms, "due to domestic policing requirements"

There are already two Senior UK Police Officers in Iraq, serving as advisors and mentors to the Chief of Baghdad Police.

Are there any O.Com - UK Police Officers in line for this deployment to Iraq?

I'm going to apply for the next Solomon Islands deployment. They have 3 more rotations of 6 month tours, so I'll see how I go.

Good luck mate - but I'll bet that there will be heaps of applicants.

I remember when they were calling for applicants for deployment to East Timor. There were hundreds of applicants from all Police Forces throughout Australia.

I heard someone say that when on Deployment, you can just about live on your allowances and Bank you normal salary?

Very nasty rumours after Timor deployment that some cops bought houses with their allowances alone.

Likewise here JK, there will be a huge number of well qualified applicants. Recruit intakes have been increased to keep numbers up.

For the Solomons the NZ Police have set allowances at $80 NZ a day and 10 days compulsory leave at the end of deployment.

Luckily the World cup will be over by the next deployment so I'll see how I go. No biggee.

I also see the South Africans decided to play the man not the ball on Saturday. I would imagine the AB's will be in for much the same this weekend.
