I've been thinking about proposing the idea to management for about a year now, and have just started to follow through with it. In order for the uppers to bite the hook, I have to have all my I's dotted and T's crossed. I was hoping someone here would have some literature supporting the use of motorcycles for patrol use, VIP escorts, parades, funeral escorts, community policing, and any other use during the normal duties.
This is for a Military Police command, so it will be an uphill battle.
Also, we will be needing to write an order on the use of them, so if anyone has any good ideas to include this would also be helpful.

No kidding... I read the title of this thread and honestly thought you were going to ask how to start the engine on a motorcycle.

Doggone it Mike, I don't get on here as much as I used to, and you beat me to it. I was ready to give detailed info too. . . :D
Culbyak, don't give up. We have a few "motor jocks" on here, and I'm sure they will be glad to help you out when they see this.
H8? DR? Ken? Anybody?
Check your e-mail. I sent a copy of my dept SOP's and General Orders. Also some links and info. If something is not addressed PM me or send a message to my work e-mail. It is in the body of the message.

I had a copy of my proposal laying around here until I started re-doing the office ... I'll find it, and I can get a copy to you.
What I concentrated on for my proposal was the accessibility of the motors when cars etc ... couldn't maneuver through clogged roads. I also looked at the patrol availability for crowded pedestrian avenues at events such as Fleet Week and the Airshows, holidays, and just plain 'ole days with really nice weather.
I'd look in to past practice type things as well ... the military used to use motorcycles, and though it's been quite a few years, they might like to see them re-born.
Traffic enforcement is also a good thing to throw out there, and, while we're talking about traffic ... I know most posts have their own fueling stations, however, when the Army was still here in SF, they had to go off-post to fuel up. Here, the gas prices are still up around 2.25/gallon for the regular unleaded ... it's a lot more cost effective to ride the bikes around, be seen, do enforcement, and use less fuel ... all at the same time.
Oh yeah, you did mention escorts etc ... another good thing to throw in ... and dignitaries love motorcycle escorts ...
