I just got back from the Andrews Air Force Base open house on Maryland..On the way down I noticed a trooper had some shady looking indivduals out of the car on 95...I pulled over to give him a hand...Turned out to be nothing..He came right up to me and he knew I was on the job....We had a short conversation..He told me he works a week of five days then two days off...Rotates shift between days and evenings...Then works six days on with three days off rotates again during his six days on....Then works six days on with one day off...Then goes on seven straight days of midnights  Then gets five days off....I couldnt believe it..I work four days of midnights and I am shot...Seven straight days...I asked him he said the administration doesnt care...He said thier union is weak...I also figured it would be an officer safety issue...and every one here thinks they have it bad..No I know why some of them are grouchy when they stop us :D

I think it must be a trooper thing. The troopers assigned to the county my city is in work varying shifts from week to week. I couldn't do it. When we rotated every 28 days, it took me two weeks to get adjusted.

Were on 95/695/495/ or 83? I think troopers in the urban areas of Maryland would probably be a lot more stressed then those in the rural areas.
Did you hear the Maryland National Guard band play, BTW?

I sure wouldn't want to work a nightmare like that. I use to hate rotating every month. I wouldn't be very pleasant if I stopped you and worked that schedule.

My ex-husband is a municipal police officer in NJ. he rotated shifts every 7 days... midnites/days/swings... with 2 days off in between. yes its miserable and makes the body feel like crap.
I think in a job where your safety is so totally affected by your thinking, they could work out a better schedule.

Personally I think its illegal...Our Union beat the city years ago when we had the six day on two day off schudule...Research was done on rotating shifts..But seven days straight in a row...the average worker works no more than five days a week...why are these troopers required to work seven days..on midnights no less...and five days off after that doesnt compensate for it...
