When I started running in college...back before dirt was invented...I used to wear out(5-10 miles/day) BROOKS($50+ in 1980 dollars). I could get about 300 miles out of a pair. When BROOKS went under, I switched to Addias w/'Glider' inserts. They weren't nearly in the same league, but it was what I could afford at the time.
Now, I buy Nikes, Reboks.....whatever's on sale.
I like my Nike Airs. Reeboks have never lasted for me. No matter what kind of shoe you get, they're still going to wear out and lose their support after 3-4 months if you're regularly running in them. That's been my experience, anyway. :)

I sold atheltic shoes for a local chain all through college before joining the poh-lice, so I know a little about this stuff.Technology has come a long way, but the basics of running shoe construction have stayed the same. A gut of your size defintely needs a motion control shoe as you stated. You probably need a shoe made on a board last as opposed to a slip-lasted shoe. You're probably a pronator, meaning you strike heavy on your heels and roll inward. Go for somehting with a stiff heel cup. I'm not as big as you, but I prefer a heavy duty shoe. The ones designed for trail running generally fit the bill. I currently use the New Balance 805, which has been replaced by the 806. It would probably suit you.

Adidas or Nike. I did buy a pair of New Balance also and they are quite nice but they haven't got any workout suits yet and you know..... the shoes must match the clothes!! :D
(JUST KIDDING about the matching clothes and shoes!!)
