Please post relevant comments here.

There is no need for debate on the MERITS or VALIDITY of these plans here, as a thread was closed on that topic.

This is primarily for those who wish to share comments or thoughts with others of a positive nature...

Sgt. Dave, I'm sorry I didn't post earlier and the previous thread went the wrong way. I just want to tell you congratulations on the weight loss, keep up the good work and most importantly please keep us posted with your good progress, and even when it slows down or it's a bad day, also keep us posted.

I never tried Atkins, but I've heard and seen great things about it. I've piled on the pounds in recent years (the last three) and exercise is a third or fourth priority for me and I for sure don't want to have the health problems that run in my family.

I used to eat as I pleased, but the exercise and training used to keep it off.......but that doesn't work now, particularly that my work is sedentary now and if I'm not sitting in an office, someone elses or on a plane, I'm in the car.

I think from the little experience I've had in weight loss any regime PLUS exercise PLUS drinking water is the best. But again, each person needs to find their own comfort level (even though comfort may not be a priority) with their eating regime.

Anyway, lots of luck and I hope in the coming weeks I can post some stuff up here about a diet regime that I've decided on and also made a resolution to stick to.

SGT Dave, congrats on the progress! I'm getting moving again after a plateau and I needed to increase my exercise. I'm bicycling every day, 12 miles weekdays and 20 on weekends. 35 pounds lost so far this year.

Don, congratulations on the quitting smoking. My last cigarette was in November. Still have times I'd like one, but I don't feel like I NEED one.

DON QUIT SMOKING ?????????? WOO HOO

And Dave, I don't do the whole Atkin's thing but when I cut up I keep carbs under 100 a day. Of course, anybody that's seen me lately knows I shouldn't be using terms like cut up in public

I got a little pudgy when things started going wierd with the wife. In the last 18 months or so though, I have gone from a 34 inch waist to 40/42. I finally took the bicycle out of moth balls recently and have lifted consistantly for two weeks now. I'm hoping I'm back on track permanently this time. From reading the other post here I can only assume you are doing well on it?

I still have the (rare) occasion when I desperately want a cigar. However, I've managed to resist it. I've still got two unopened boxes here in the house. I figure they are getting so old and stale that if I ever do light one up in desperation, it won't take me long to say "enough."

The wife has NOT quit smoking, and it really doesn't bother me at all. I've not been a cigarette smoker in so many years, that it just is nothing one way or the other.

I'm not moving quite as quickly on the weight loss as some folks are. And this is deliberate. I feel that it's more likely to stay off, if I have the "life style change" that we all are talking about, rather than having a "diet."

I was an even 250 this morning, so the progress is very much there, it just is not dramatic. I've got a heck of a long way to go, and I don't want to screw my health up any more than it already is in the process of getting down to where I should be.

I bought the book last week. It makes soooo much sense. I spoke with 2 doctors about it, and I got the thumbs up. I plan on starting next Monday. Hope to share some good news!

SGT Dave...
I can't remember if you were the one that was not looking forward to giving up the Mexican food due to Atkins.

You can have fajitas - no chips or tortillas though.

CB-Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the advice. I may very well partake in them soon-I'm having the urge for Mex in a BAD way!

Today makes one month exactly, and I had a follow up appointment with the doctor last Friday.

28 pounds total loss, and BP is 114/80. To say that I AND my doctor are happy would be an understatement. :D

I'm sticking with it for the long haul though...

Wow...28 pounds in a month is great. I am doing the Atkins thing too...or at least a modified version. I had a BP / diabetes scare...so that really got me motivated to lose the weight. I started in late March. My weight loss has slowed...but I am really toning a lot, and the inches are still coming off. I have lost 4 sizes already.

The whole wheat tortillas are great. I use those in place of bread (don't like the low carb bread...neither do the dogs). I make sandwich wraps with them. Yummy!

I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks doing that Special K diet..you know two bowls a day and one regular meal. I snack on fruit and veggies and when I have sweet craving, eat a Teddie Graham or eat one of those hard candy mint chocolate swirl things...tastes like chocolate without all the extra bad stuff. I will never be in the shape I was when I was in my 20's....and I accept that....I dont need to look like a Telly Tubbie, though!

I lost weight on the Atkins, but it is a horribly boring diet! I never realized how much I was addicted to carbs!

If you can stay on it, it works. My cholesterol also went down. My MD was against it, but I ignore him half the time anyway!

Continuing to excercise though has been more helpful to me than anything. To keep the weight off, I just have to me mature in how much I eat at meals, no easy task for a guy who once had a blast furnace metabolism. But that's long gone...

What I miss the most though are Navajo Tacos. I've made a regular practice of getting into these big time at least a couple of times a month, until I started this "life style change." I'm OK, until I drive across the rez. It just about kills me to not stop in Cameron or Tuba, or that Anasazi Inn that is just out of Kayenta!

I'm really surprised at how I just have not missed the ice cream like I thought I would! I believe that this is just like anything else. When the time is right, you will do it, and not have too much trouble with it. If the time is NOT right, you might as well stand in the middle of California's El Camino Real and hit your head with a sledge hammer!

I think their saving grace is that they are so thin. You don't get that wierd tasteless texture of the low carb bread.

I also use the store-brand hamburger rolls. they generally run around 20g. i keep them in the freezer and sit one out when i decide i need one.

They are great for making open face breakfast sandwiches, and for those i only use a half of one.

The Atkins Crunchers chips make GREAT nachos. and think of the things you can cover them with!
