"Television evangelists Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, two of the most prominent voices of the religious right, said liberal civil liberties groups, feminists, homosexuals and abortion rights supporters bear partial responsibility for Tuesday's terrorist attacks because their actions have turned God's anger against America."

Ditto Raychel!

I flipped over to the Trinity Broadcasting Network last night. Instead of "Attack on America", or "America United" thier big graphic and theme was "The Beginning of the End".

Their preaching that this is the 'end times' and that according to the Bible, the U.S. is going to fall.

They even had some of their rhetoric dressed up as a "Intelligence Briefing" with official looking logos that suggested an official government involvement.

It made me sick!

Of cuorse, they all said the same thing during Desert Storm and, gee, the world didn't explode.

And they said the same thing at Y2K, and it seems that God is not on the same calendar as we are. ;) Because the world didn't end then either.

They're milking the fears of millions to fill thier pockets and build theme parks.

It makes me sick, it really does.

The use of the preacher's cloth this way is just another sick manipulation in this time of grief. They are like the scum who make use of a funeral to rob a house.

They dishonor their professed religion, and shame themselves.

Nothing new in that, they have done it so often before.

My heart is with all the brave believers of all faiths that were on the planes, in the buildings, and who responded to call during this disaster. ANd to the families of the fallen.

My scorn goes to the hypocricts who try to profit off of the suffering and pain.

Darn shame these guys had to let their sheets show. This may cut into this year's profits, I mean love gifts.

Article makes it seem that Jerry was spouting off and Pat was in yes-man mode. Perhaps they both could head to NY for a little penitence.

Truly disgusting.

Using this incredible tragedy as a way to push their beliefs is outrageous. There is just no other way to describe it...disgusting.

Those two toads are not real Americans, nor are they Christians. Jesus would be ashamed of those closet Klansmen.

The minister of my church was as disgusted by their remarks as we are. I can't speak to religion in general, but I'm sure that such ignorant remarks will be acceptable to other ignorant people. Most of these people are unable to think for themselves and look to people like PR and JF to do it for them.

IMO, we need to make anything someone might gain by doing such things so costly that they decide it isn't worth the price. That means we need to completely eliminate the ability of these people to attack us (to the extent that the Constitution allows) using any and all means. The US Constitution should not apply to enemies of the State, but to citizens of it.

We also need to educate people. The world is full of people who have been taught that we (Americans) are a decadent society, and a threat to their way of life. In their minds, the end justifies the means. As long as the truth is replaced by propaganda, there will always be people who blame their misfortunes on the success of others. It happens right here every day.

Here is what was actually said........ which, in my opinion, is worse than even the news made it sound:

"JERRY FALWELL: And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government. And so we're responsible as a free society for what the top people do. And, the top people, of course, is the court system."

Here is a link to where Robertson claims he misunderstood what Falwell had said: http://www.cbn.com/partner/Article_Display_Page/0,,PTID2546|CHID101024|CIID838722,00.html

And here is one to Falwell's apology: http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/09/14/Falwell.apology/index.html
