DNA Casts Doubt on Hitler Suicide Story

(Sept. 28) - New DNA tests show that a skull long thought to be Adolf Hitler's is not his after all. Scientists at the University of Connecticut conducted tests on the bullet-pierced skull -- which had been secretly preserved for decades by Soviet intelligence -- and discovered that it belonged to an unidentified woman under 40, the British newspaper The Guardian reported Sunday.
The results cast doubt on the long-held account that the Nazi dictator swallowed a cyanide pill and then committed suicide in his Berlin bunker as Allied forces were closing in on him in 1945. The story of the testing was also reported in a History Channel documentary, "Hitler's Escape."

University of Connecticut archaeologist and bone specialist Nick Bellantoni knew from the outset that something was amiss. "The bone seemed very thin; male bone tends to be more robust," he said. "And the sutures where the skull plates come together seemed to correspond to someone under 40." Hitler had turned 56 in 1945.
Bellantoni had flown to Moscow to inspect the skull and was given one hour to take DNA samples. The testing was conducted in Connecticut.
According to the Guardian, the skull fragment was the only positive physical proof that Hitler had shot himself. So who does the skull belong to?
According to witnesses, Hitler committed suicide with his mistress Eva Braun. Their bodies were then wrapped in blankets and carried to a bomb crater outside the Berlin bunker, doused with gas and set on fire. But Bellantoni doesn't think the skull belongs to her.
"There is no report of Eva Braun having shot herself or having been shot afterwards. It could be anyone. Many people were killed around the bunker area," he said.

Hmmm. If you imagine the hair grown out a bit on that picture, give him more facial hair, put a Trooper tattoo on his left forearm and have him sit on a Road King, he starts to look familiar...

By the way, it is all Bush's fault.

Interesting.

Things are not always as they seem.

So,...

Is this test the thing that is misleading, is the story of the storage of the skull misleading, or is the suicide in the first place misleading?

I just know that when a body is burned with jp-8 the bones usually don't make it out intact.

Don't ask.

It's like that book "The Berkut" by Joseph Heywood, a historical fiction about how Hitler escapes from Berlin.

Of course, the Russians also hunt him down and turn him into a human monkey, but still...inteesting stuff. I don't think we'll ever know for sure.

It wasn't, it was just a portion of the skull with a bullet hole in it. I saw this on History channel awhile back, it was very good.

They don't really try to say he escaped, just the skull is not Hitlers. The USSR screwed it up royally by 1) being so secretive about it and 2) the soldiers were deathly afraid what Stalin would do if they didn't produce a body.

Read another one "Death of the Fuhrer"...Hitler died, but they took his brain and put it in another person...pretty good read actually.

Elvis is to cool to hang with any of those thugs. MAYBE he'd hang with Jim Morrison now and then for giggles.... :D

It is plausible that he escaped however after all this time my belief is that there is no way they could keep that a secret, the Israelis in their quest for Nazis I think would have uncovered this. The obsession Hitler had with riding the world of Jews would have made it imposable for him to be underground without surfacing. Nope I think he died like a coward, and with any hope it was a long torturous death, good riddance to the scum.

I wish he was still alive and Israel got a hold of him.

They'd get medieval on his azz. Something about a pair of pliers and a blow torch.

The story doesn't cast any doubt that Hitler killed himself. The skull simply is not his. It in no way confirms or refutes the suicide story.

Well, this skull fragment and a bloody piece of couch had been claimed by the Russians as proof of Hitler's death. This knocks out that "proof" (the bloody couch had a mix, but mostly female DNA). The bone had been burned briefly, but not long. The history channel show also had an interview with the last surviving guard who said he'd heard the shot, but using a diagram of the layout they pretty much proved that no one could've heard the shot, since Hitler's room was on the other side of the diesel generators.

Great, now the anti-Vatican, anti-OSS (the CIA forerunner agency), the anti-GOP, and the anti-Masonic (don't know if Hitler was a Mason, but what does it matter?) conspiracy theorists now all have new ingredients to add to their daily dose of paranoid insanity.

He's dead, get over it.

He's not doing conservative, right-wing talk radio, M-F morning or afternoon drive-time.

He's not advising Obama on national health care or American-Isreali relations (although one could almost see that he was).

He is not, as the campaign ad might go, "tan, trim, and ready for a comeback!"
