OK, I know Fraud isn't one of the glamour crimes. Last week however, I was able to attend a two-day conference put on by the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators.
These folks bring in some top-flight speakers. This is the second one I've attended, and it is well worth many times the nominal charge ($150). Heck, even my hotel and food bill was larger.
One of the best speakers was a gent from the NHSP who gave a talk on statement analysis (wow-I'm a believer), and another who is from the CT State Police Crime Lab, and he talked on Forensic Document Analysis. Yeah, boring stuff, but can well be applicable in investigating many other types of crime. There were also speakers that were FBI, Secret Service, Interpol, as well as several Directors of Corporate Security.
I plan to join the IAFCI for a couple reasons. One, is that it provides an extensive, ready network of international contacts, and second, it is a low-cost membership in a recognized, professional organization.
