I was just named Team Leader in the Firearms Training Division of our SWAT team. We had a training instuctor/coordinater for the past year that was hired from a neighboring agency to conduct all of our training needs and to prepair us for independance. He is gone now and we are on our own. Part of my responsibility is to come up with a qualification course for the assault rifle. I am an ace #1 shot and can teach others to be as good, but I cannot come up with a qualifying course for jack-squat. The pre-requisits are: About 50-70 rounds of fire, 7yards and out to 100 yards, physically challenging, etc. We shoot the AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine. Any suggestions??
There is a Firearms Instructors manual put out by the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and Armorers' Association (http://www.mlefiaa.homestead.com/homepage.html) that covers quite a few different scenarios that might be useful.

The International Association of LawEnforcement Firearms Instructors (www.ialefi.com) also publishes a manual of firearms courses.
Movista, who were you becoming independent from? Be safe.

If you were a member, the NLETA could help you out by posting something on the site as well as sending an e-mail to the members on your behalf requesting help.
We're new, but the NLETA is established to provide that kind of personal and direct service to it's members.

I'll check that out, thanks.
J from M: Our team started a little over a year ago. It is the first Tactical Team that our department has had so we had to start from scratch. The department hired the the SWAT trainer/commander from Garland SWAT to put us through the SWAT academy and to come every other Thursday for training and to coordinate the few raids that we have done. So, he was preparing us for indepedance from his instruction/direction/coordination. We are now responsible for our own training/coordination. The Commander did leave me with a basic q-course but we have grown beyond basic.

WOW!
Thanks for the info! I'm just getting started in Firearms Training and I am beginning to figure out exactly how much I have to learn! Thanks for the resources!
I've got one of the manuals, and I have to say it is excellent!
A lot of information in an easy to understand format, and it makes a great training tool.
It's well worth the money.
