For those of you who get American Police Beat, you can find an article on page 46 of the October 2001 issue about one of our members NLETA.
The article is pretty straight forward and outlines what the NLETA plans to do, which happenes to be a lot of things that ASLET either hasn't done or just recently said they were planning to do (they said it after NLETA announced it. Not saying ASLET is copying them, but it does look a little suspicious.).
In any case, congrats NLETA on the write up. Hope it brings you more members who are searching for an alternative to ASLET.

Niteshift - Thanks for the post!
We don't really view the NLETA as being in competition with the American Society for Law Enforcement Training, but rather we are two organizations, each with a different mission and focus.
While ASLET seems to support LE training in general, the NLETA is set up to serve individual trainers in a very direct way.
The tone of the APB article seemed a little competitive, but as most of us know...articles are subject to the interpretations of the author.
We don't want to put ASLET out of business. That is not our goal in the slightest. In fact, we believe that ASLET provides some good benefits and we encourage ANY trainer to join whatever association that they feel will assist them in their profession. Several of our members are also members of ASLET and we feature that membership in their Online Membership Directory page.
We, too, have noticed ASLET offering additional services just after we launched. We really do not view this as competition. (If anything, impersonation is the sincerest form of flattery. ;) ) Perhaps they simply recognized the need just as we did. We are glad that ASLET members will benefit from their expansion of member services. When some of their new benefits are up and running, we may even feature them in our Online Magazine to help spread the word to LE trainers.
In the end, it is the LE Trainer who benefits the most by having more services available to them, so we see this as a good thing. We want to see more services available to trainers. We are not particular about where that service comes from as long as it is a good quality service offered at fair value.
We have received widely fluctuating responses from various LE organizations and resources. Most have been very supportive and creative about looking for ways to form collaborative partnerships with the NLETA in an effort to better serve LE trainers and improve the state of LE training as a whole.
We look forward to working with ASLET as well as any organization who is interested in meeting the needs of LE trainers.
We've had alot of interest in membership, but there also seems to be alot of folks who are adopting a "wait and see" attitude. Several have remarked that they are going to wait until we have more members before they join.
The only problem with this is that if everyone waits until we have more members....then we'll never have any more members.
Anyone who is interested in the NLETA should join soon. We can't grow without members. We are offering Charter Memberships at the reduced annual rate of $35. Charter Members will never pay more than $35 a year for their dues. However, after we have issued out the limited number of Charter Memberships to be offered, the amount for annual dues will be raised slightly and Regular Membership dues will be subject to future increases in coming years if it becomes neccessary. Charter Members will also receive exclusive benefits made available only to them. This is our way of saying "Thanks" for believing in us and helping the NLETA get off the ground.
What do you get for your $35?
Good question!
NLETA Memberhsip is a professional credential. We restrict membership to only qualified and experienced trainers. All applications are verified through telephone interviews. To say that you are a member of the NLETA is to say that you are an active, experienced, and qualified professional LE trainer.
Your own web page in our Online Member Directory. With your input, we create a page that features your background and experience as well as info about the course that you offer.
Unlimited, free announcements in our Online Training Calendar. Again, we work with you to create a page that features the information on your upcoming course. This is not just a link to your web site. Many trainers do not have their own web site, so we create a page for you. If you DO have a web site, then you may, of course, link to it from our site. Whether it's one course a year or twenty....this service is free to you as a member of the NLETA.
Member written articles on our Online Magaizine. We welcome NLETA members who wish to contribute articles on training tips, product reviews, or any topic which other LE trainers may be interested in. Each article is featured on our home page for a period of time and is them archived. It is available for anyone visiting the site to read, not just other members who get a copy of a "Member's Only" magazine. Twenty-four hurs a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year; your articles on the NLETA Online Magazine are available to trainers all over the world whether they are members of the NLETA or not. They are also available for prospective students and LE administrators.
These are only the services and benefits that we currently offer. We have many more plans. We also listen to our members who have only to call or e-mail us to make suggestions or requests about what they would like to see from the NLETA.
In fact, we are currently working on some research at the request of a member. The results of this research will be made available to the public on our web site and in print so that the entire LE training community may benefit from the resource.
How did this happen? Well, one of our members called up and suggested that he could use the info and that he thought other LE trainers might be interested as well. We agreed and that same day began working on the project. It is this kind of personal and direct service that the NLETA is all about!
Sorry so long, but I'm really excited about the NLETA! I hope to hear from some of you soon.
