I have conducted research on police officers killed in the line of duty. The report will be submitted for publication in the near future. I am a former police officer and currently a graduate student at the University of Tennessee. I am interested in conducting seminars or inservice training free of charge in exchange for letters of reference. Also any input you may have on the topic of officers killed in the line of duty will be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance...

Tiberon,

Perhaps you could elaborate a little. What is the focus of the research? Are you focusing on the method of homicide, the circumstances etc?

I researched the frequency, victim characteristics, offender characteristics, time, place, assignment, the effect of public opinion, the significance of body armor, ect. I also devoted a chapter to myths surrounding law enforcemet deaths. I would be happy to e-mail a copy of the paper to any serious inqueries. For questions or comments feel free to contact me at bburton1@utk.edu

actually, I'b be very interested. The time, assignment etc. is easy enough to find. I'm interested in what you found about public reaction and the myths.

Yea time, place, weapon used, ect. are easy data sets to find thanks to NIJS and UCR but *why* more officers are killed with guns,on Wednesdays, with 9mm, are the questions I attempt to answer. As for public opinion and officers killed, I hypotheisied that a lower opinion of police will correlate with higher police murder rates. My research did not support my hypothesis. Going through the police academy I was told several "facts" about police officers killed. In my research I found some of these "facts" were simply myths.
