Do you use a personell duress alarm in your prison..when pressed and activated it sends to a computer system in a control room and shows your precise location,we were using one which activated in the control room in 3 seconds thereby we were able to have officers at the scene immediately it showed where the officer was and who it was.Now with our upgrade this system is considered defunct, out of date, the new one they are trialling takes 10/12 seconnds to send and then cant tell us where the officer is in trouble we operate in a 5 storey prison, i have heard of a system in the states called flare/flash and is top line has any one had contact with this system,im waiting on some literature from the company behind it they are called DOMINION WIRELESS COMPANY and have been extremelly helpfull so far..so have you dealt with there system... :)

In our County Jail we have 3 seperate buildings. In one of them there are personnell alarms built into the walls. These alarm in the control rooms in that building only. And only give the location specific as to which floor/wing of the building. IIRC there are about 10 or so on each wing. We also have alarms built into our Motorola Radios. The radio alarms alarm in our main control room for the 2 main buildings. These alarm to a computer which tells us instantly which radio the alarm is being pushed from. Provided the radio is where its assigned it works quite well.

We had these in our OLD building. It's (the building's) design was so poor that you never knew where anyone was. And there were NO cameras, anywhere. Every once in a while those darn things would get bumped and set off by mistake. . .
After we got the new county jail, we no longer needed the alarms. It was built in the modular fashion, with a control tower where the tower operator could see literally "everywhere" in the tanks and hallways.

the radio ones keeping track of who is supposed to have the radio would be a job in itself interesting to hear though in our systems update motorola was one of the durress systems but was knocked on the head due to supposedly reliability problems but who knows thats why consultants are paid big $$$$ and they all know about prisons to ;)

Our alarms are built into our radios, Newer style Digital Motorola's. It is a recessed orange button on the top of the radio that when pressed send's a signal to Central control which activates an alarm box telling them what radio number is tripped. Our radios are assigned to locations within the jail. These radios stay in that location at all times. If an officer is getting releived for anything then the officer that is releiving them changes radios. The only radios which are not assigned a certian location are the radios that the "rovers" wear. These "rovers" as they are called are officers that are not assigned spots in the jail but rather roam throughout the jail and respond to emergencies or requests of officers that are stationed within the jail. If their "down man" button is depressed it will show the radio number but we will not know where they are within the jail. The current system works well and our administration has no plans on replacing it. I remember the old days when we were just issued whistles!! Try doing that today!
