I heard that the FOP doesn't acknolwedge corrections as law enforcement. Does anyone know anything about this?

I know that in Pennsylvania the FOP represents the State Police although they refuse to represent the State Co's.

The FOP only recognizes full-time, sworn, officers with powers of arrest, employed by a governmental entity. If your state grants CO's the power of arrest and recognizes them as full-time sworn you're probably eligible. Check with your local lodge.

This eliminates the private CO's and their companies, such as CCA.

Each lodge can establish more guidelines if they wish, as long as it's not inconsistent with the Consitution of the National Lodge.

At the National Convention in Phoenix this past August, there was a motion introduced by some of the lodges that wanted to extend membership to dispatchers, and some other non-sworn members of their dept.

It wasn't so much to further the ideals of the Lodge or the Order, as it was to gain members to increase their collective bargaining power for their respective agencies. Since this required a Constitutional amendment, it was presented to the membership for their vote.

It was soundly defeated.

Dispatchers, CO's, civilians, family members and other interested parties that don't qualify for full membership may apply for an Associate membership, however it does not entitle you to a vote, access to regular members meetings, the right to purchase and display FOP license plates on your POV. That seems to be something that's big in demand for many folks, sworn and otherwise.

Personally, I prefer not to display tags, stickers, or police-related items on my POV. It's already cost my wife a new rear windshield on her car.

Just pure meanness, nothing else. FOP = cop = F**k with their car
