Wonderwoman,
You brought up a good point in mentioning "Tact Teams" as a possible topic. So, lets talk about them. Does your prison or facility have them? Or do you rely on a police agency for serious situations? What type of training is offered and how long and how often is it? How big is your team? What type of weapons are used? Full or Part-time? Any K-9's? I'll wait to hear a few about everyone elses and then tell you about ours.
Peace!

Well...... I can't make any confession on what I do http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif (public forum and all that jazz.... plus a little bit of mystery is good for the image!! http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif ).... ...but I do confess I know about many kinds of tact teams.
In the provincial system there are tact teams in locations throughout the province. Mainly in medium size and large size instituions. If a smaller jail needed a team then a team from another location responds. Otherwise the smaller jail have CET teams. (cell extraction)
Tact teams are trained at the military base and get around 5 weeks the first year (3 plus 2) and training days every month.
They also compete for their positions through competition and have to pass physical testing, written test and an interview.... final decision rests with the local top administrator.
The top dog also receives Incident Commander training or Crisis management training.

I was on my prison's SWAT team, we called it CERT, we also had an riot squad (rapid response team), K9, and contraband intradiction teams. I am on the road now but will always treasure the experience I gained from working on the inside. For the first 2 months I thought my name p*$$y ***** cracker. but after I wrote pac-man on the side of my hat it stopped. It was great to learn how real crooks work, live, and think.
